Brown-Forman Assistant Brand Manager - William Grant and Sons Heritage Brands in Tokyo, Japan

William Grant & Sons (WG&S) is one of the leading international spirits companies, with a portfolio of premium and super-premium spirits brands such as Glenfiddich, The Balvenie, Monkey Shoulder, Grant’s, Tullamore Dew, and Hendrick’s Gin. Brown-Forman has been appointed the exclusive distributor for WG&S’s full portfolio in Japan, effective January 1, 2025.

This role works closely with the Brand Manager in charge of Monkey Shoulder and Hendrick’s to support these 2 brands and lead Grants, Tullamore Dew, Sailor Jerry, and Drambuie. It champions the brands across the entire BFJ organization and works closely across functions to drive profitable growth.

What You Can Expect

● Supports the Brand Planning development :

○ Analyzes business performance, market trends, and competitor activities to support strategic planning.

○ Assists in translating brand visions into actionable plans that align with BFJ & WG&S ambitions.

○ Collaborates with the Brand Manager to support the development, execution, and evaluation of the marketing programs.

○ Coordinates with cross-functional teams and external partners.

○ Supports the Brand Manager in driving the financial agenda of the portfolio, including budget allocation, A&P tracking, cost control, revenue generation and reports preparation.

● Supports the implementation of Brand Plans:

○ Contributes to the development and execution of go-to-market campaigns and initiatives, including ATL and field marketing activities.

○ Develops and manages all necessary marketing resources & tools in consultation with the Brand Manager WG&S Heritage Brands.

○ Works closely with the Integrated Marketing Communication team to ensure effective communication and media planning.

○ Collaborates with the Insights team to track and measure key brand, business, and consumer metrics for informed decision-making.

○ Supports the Commercial and Trade Marketing teams in developing effective channel and customer programs.

○ Tracks and monitors the status and results of the marketing projects.

● Nurtures Strong Collaboration with Internal and External Stakeholders:

○ Support the liaison between internal BFJ and WG&S teams to synchronize brand efforts and secure full alignment.

○ Cultivates best in class collaboration with marketing departments, creative teams, and vendors to ensure unified brand messaging.

○ Actively participates in brainstorming sessions, workshops, and collaborative projects to foster innovation and alignment.

○ Advocates for diversity & inclusion within the marketing agenda and within the organization.

What You Bring to the Table

● 2+ years of relevant marketing experience

● Business curiosity, forward thinking and entrepreneurial mindset

● Ability to prioritize, organize and manage multiple business objectives to completion by specific deadlines

● Strong collaborative skills, talent for building alliances to develop and maintain productive working relationships with various levels of internal and external contacts and with diverse cultures

● Persuasive communication skills (influencing, listening, presenting, writing) in Japanese and English; ability to explain brand stories, plans/activities and analyses in a clear, concise, and visually appealing manner

● Ability & willingness to travel internationally and attend evening and weekend events when needed

● Adaptability, flexibility and resilience

● Honesty and integrity

What Makes You Unique

● Some initial experience for FMCG, luxury goods, beverages, or emotional lifestyle/image brands; prior experience with premium & super-premium international spirits

● Keen eye for curating refined brand experiences that align with the lifestyles of super premium shoppers. Appreciation of craftsmanship and understanding of brand storytelling

● Blend of marketing and business acumen

● Some initial experience working for a foreign company, especially a U.S. or European company

● Self-starter with proven ability to identify issues and projects, plan and prioritize with demonstrated ability to organize and manage multiple projects to completion by specific deadlines

● Humility and a good sense of humor
