Position Title: Generator Technician (Full Time)
Description: A Generator Technician is a service professional who will be responsible for repairing and performing preventative maintenance on portable and backup Generac Generator equipment and providing advice to our customers and other technicians. Generator Technicians have a lot of technical know-how, using hand tools and diagnostic equipment, and work with big and small mechanical components. They also need customer service skills, working with clients and customers to help them understand what is needed to keep our engines running, and different options for repair or maintenance. Generator Technicians need to be able to look at engine components, identify problems, and use troubleshooting skills to deduce solutions to repair the troubled engine component(s). Sales skills are helpful, as we provide both service and support plans.
The ideal candidate will be:
Upbeat and outgoing with a positive and personable attitude.
Generac or ASE or EGSA certification.
Will have exemplary communication skills, and be a good smooth, calm and enthusiastic talker.
Exhibit a keen sense of attention to detail Being able to pay attention to the minute details of engine repair.
Strength: Engines and parts can be extremely heavy and will take a lot of strength to move or manipulate.
Engine mechanics will need mechanical skills and have familiarity with parts and components of engines, as well as the tools to fix them.
Technical Skills: Some engine mechanics will need to be familiar with electronic diagnostic equipment to troubleshoot repairs.
Engine mechanics need to be able to look at engine components, troubleshoot problems, and define a solution that alleviates the symptom(s).
A skilled multi-tasker
Able to empathize with irate customers and handle them in a professional and compassionate manner.
Have a driving record that will withstand insurance underwriting,
Repair of portable and standby home and business generators to our customers
Obtaining problem descriptions from customers and preparing cost estimates for repairs.
Testing and inspection of engines to determine malfunctions, to locate missing and broken parts, and to verify repairs, using diagnostic instruments.
Provide periodic preventative maintenance of generators (Oil changes, Air & fuel filters etc).
Present & sell Service & Support plans to customers in need of this service.
Mechanical adjustment of output devices, valves, carburetors, distributors, and spark plug gaps, using feeler gauges.
Disassembly and reassembly of generators after repair or maintenance work is complete.
Records keeping of repairs made, time spent, and parts used.
Warranty claim processing, filing and follow-up.
Identify and order parts for repairs from vendor.
Parts and equipment sales as it relates to their job function.
The Small Engine Mechanic shows customers how to maintain equipment.
Other tasks as defined by management.
Two years of experience of engine repair.
Knowledge of 120v/240v Alternating current helpful.
Must be High School /Trade school graduate or equivalent.
must be able to lift 50 pounds from floor to table height.
Must have personal hand tools.
Must have reliable transportation.
Ability to perform accurate data entry with all customer information.
Provide excellent customer service with the goal of 100% customer satisfaction.
Must be dependable.
Problem solving skills and a desire to get the job done right the first time.
A consistent work history with good references.
Data entry experience.
Have a driving record that will withstand insurance underwriting.
Be able to pass a background check and urine toxicology screening.
Salary / Compensation Structure:
Base Pay: $15.00-$30.00 / hour (Full Time)
