Examples of Duties

We are looking for you, if you: Enjoy providing excellent customer service and want to be part of a dynamic and skilled team maintaining a rapidly growing inventory of vegetated storm water treatment facilities, and green infrastructure.   • Maintaining and rehabilitating the city’s numerous vegetated storm water treatment facilities and drinking water reservoir sites.

  • Occasionally performing creek/stream restoration projects. Assisting citizens with questions they may have regarding the city’s storm system and how these facilities treat storm water and help control flooding.

  • Perform restoration work in many drainage areas eliminating and mitigating erosion within in forested areas. Types of equipment you will be tasked to operate may include, push and riding mowers, weed eaters, blowers, chainsaws, backhoe, mini excavators, trucks with trailers.

  • During weather events and emergencies, the division also assists other divisions as needed to ensure the public receives the highest level of customer service.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Any combination of training and experience, which would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

  • Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade AND

  • Two (2) years of related experience, such as construction, repair, operation, and maintenance of streets, underground utilities, or parks and landscape.

  • Possession of a valid Class A (CDL) Commercial Oregon driver's license with the appropriate endorsements and satisfactory driving record. (Must be obtained within 6 months of employment)

Desired Certifications:

  • Standard First Aid Certificate (Red Cross)?

  • CPR Certification

  • Confined Space Entry Certificate

  • Flagger Certificate

Supplemental Information

Union Representation: SEIU

Schedule: Generally, working days are Monday through Thursday one week (9-hour days) and Monday through Friday (9-hour days Monday through Thursday and an 8-hour day on Friday) the next week. This schedule provides 3-day weekends every other weekend.

Compensation for Utility Worker II: The hourly range for this overtime eligible position is $24.95-$33.33 per hour. The starting pay assignment, based on an analysis of the successful candidate’s related experience and education in accordance with the City’s pay equity policy and the Oregon Equal Pay Act, would be no higher than $30.33 per hour.

Compensation for Utility Worker I: The hourly range for this overtime eligible position is $23.75-$31.83 per hour. The starting pay assignment, based on an analysis of the successful candidate’s related experience and education in accordance with the City’s pay equity policy and the Oregon Equal Pay Act, would be no higher than $28.87 per hour.

Additional Information:

The successful candidate will pass a physical capacities test designed to evaluate ability to perform the essential physical functions of the job.
