Old Dominion Freight Line Manager - Financial Reporting in Thomasville, North Carolina

Responsible for managing the preparation of our SEC filings, coordinating with the legal team for miscellaneous filings, and ensuring ongoing Sarbanes-Oxley compliance. Works with the Accounting Department as well as all major functional leaders of the company, including senior executives.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Prepare the quarterly and annual reports on Form 10-Q/10-K and manage the internal and external review for these filings

  • Create and maintain SEC calendar to inform parties of necessary deadline adherence for the following process: financial close, Audit Committee meetings, earnings release, and 10-Q/10-K/8-K/11-K

  • Monitor and ensure timely identification and compliance with evolving accounting guidance, provide US GAAP interpretation, and prepare technical memorandums that document issues in a clear, logical and comprehensive manner

  • Manage communications with external auditors on financial statements and accounting issues to ensure auditor agreement with company decisions on accounting disclosures and issues

  • Communicate and explain accounting issues and evolving accounting guidance to management team

  • Assist in the coordination of annual audit and quarterly review activities of external auditors

  • Create, implement, and maintain comprehensive accounting policy documents to improve clarity and consistency

  • Implement and maintain reporting procedures to comply with internal control requirements.

  • Perform continuous assessment and improvement of the close process to reduce the timing to close the financial period

  • Preparation of quarterly earnings release

  • Support month-end and year-end closing

  • Participate in monthly financial trend meeting

  • Manage the implementation and maintenance of SOX 404, including documentation of processes and procedures, and implementation of controls

  • Develop and maintain policies, procedures, and workflow for assigned areas of responsibility

  • Protect organization's value by keeping information confidential

  • Participate in other projects

  • Ability to research and propose company positions on complex accounting issues

  • Ability to review and self-check work for accuracy and create a high-quality end work product

Job Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Master’s degree preferred

  • CPA required

Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience in public accounting including experience with SEC disclosures

  • Supervisory experience

  • Knowledge of US GAAP and SEC rules and regulations

  • Experience with SOX 404 compliance

  • Proficient at analyzing complex data by using logic and quantitative reasoning

  • Detail-oriented with great organizational skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and ERP financial systems

  • Ability to multi task and prioritize duties

  • Highly motivated, self-starter

  • Creative problem solver
