Purpose/Introduction

The Standards Engineer in the Central Engineering Group will report to the Central Engineering Mechanical Engineering Manager and will be accountable for maintaining the Corporate Engineering Standards and Required Manufacturing Standards. This role will service Chevron Phillips Chemical Company’s worldwide manufacturing facilities and project execution teams by providing company standards and facilitating the variance work process. The Standards Engineer will collaborate with our Engineering Support Specialist and Subject Matter Experts in Central Engineering, Corporate EHS&S, Kingwood Research & Technology, as well as our domestic and international internal networks and customers.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a library of 1000 Engineering Standards and Required Manufacturing Standards, accountable for the execution of corporate work processes for Standards revisions, variances, and development of new Standards.

  • Serve as primary Standards contact for sites and project teams, includes vetting of variance requests and variance justifications.

  • Develop and deliver user training for Standards and related work processes

  • Facilitate SME reviews of new or revised Industry and Chevron Standards

  • Manage Performance by Design or other Standards optimization projects including the tracking and reporting of KPIs

Responsibilities (continued)

  • Participate in industry associations to stay current in emerging trends and technologies

  • Collaborate with Engineering Support Specialist on oversight of Central Engineering’s portfolio of Process Industries Practices, Chevron Engineering Standards, industry standards documents, and other industry or internal reference documentation

  • Based on expertise and experience, this role may take on Subject Matter Expert ownership of one or more Engineering Standards or Required Manufacturing Standards

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering

  • 10 years of Chemical Industry Plant and Project experience

  • Outstanding practical knowledge of industry standards and codes (e.g., API, ASME/ANSI, NEMA, NFPA, etc.)

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact with a broad range of company business leaders, Corporate SMEs, project teams, plant personnel, and contractors

  • Demonstrated ability to work from a position of credible influence versus a position of authority

  • Proficiency in MS Office

Preferred Qualifications

  • Site and Corporate Project experience directly involving the selection, application, and compliance with Company and Industry Standards

  • EPC execution oversight including project design deliverables, purchase of engineered equipment, construction, QA/QC, commissioning, and startup

  • Olefins and Polymers experience

  • Experience in an enterprise "home office" central support organization

  • Position may require 10% travel to local facilities or contractor offices in the Houston or Southeast Texas area, with an occasional domestic air or international trip
