We are seeking a HIM Specialist I to join our Medical Records department. This position is Full-Time, scheduled 40 hours per week and is eligible for a comprehensive benefits package. Location:

Mid Columbia Medical Center is located in The Dalles, Oregon. We work, live, and play in the scenic Columbia River Gorge, Oregon. Located 85 miles east of Portland in the majestic Columbia River Gorge, The Dalles features old-growth forests, rushing waterfalls, and year-round access to outdoor recreation, including downhill and cross-country skiing, world-class water sports, and miles of hiking and mountain biking trails. The area boasts award-winning wineries, and, most importantly, warm, friendly people.

The purpose of this position is to support various Health Information Management department tasks. This position may act as department receptionist and may be responsible for retrieving, delivering and filing medical records. This position will appropriately respond to requests for information by applying knowledge of privacy laws, access, release of information and release control technologies. Requests for information may come in the form of internal chart requests, telephone calls or in-person requests. This position will accurately prepare, barcode, scan and index documents into the electronic health record.

Education:

  • High School graduate or equivalent is required; college coursework is preferred.

Licensure/Certification:

  • N/A

Experience:

  • Minimum one year experience in a hospital or medical office or equivalent.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

  • Able to apply general office skills and techniques, i.e. filing and computer usage; keyboard speed of 55 wpm.

  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally, including tact, diplomacy and ability to maintain composure

  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks

  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.

  • Ability to handle sensitive and private information and adhere to all confidentiality policies
