The Applied Linguistics Master of Arts program in the Department of Classical & Modern Languages & Literatures is a vibrant program with graduate students from Africa, Asia, Europe, and North and South America. CMLL consists of a dynamic and diverse community from the fields of American Sign Language, Applied Linguistics, Arabic, Classics (which includes Archaeology, Greek, and Latin), English as a Second Language, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin Chinese, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish.

Faculty Qualifications:

  • Must hold a PhD in an area of applied linguistics or second language acquisition.

  • Have a consistent record of publication that would meet departmental requirements for tenure and promotion (i.e., 1.5 -2 articles/book chapters per year, in peer-reviewed journals/series with a high impact factor).

  • Exhibit a record of teaching excellence, demonstrated via teaching evaluations, peer teaching observations, and evidence of innovative course development.

  • Demonstrate the capacity and/or specific plans to attract externally sponsored research, as shown in CV or as addressed in cover letter.

  • Demonstrate a dedication to service, engagement, and outreach, evidenced by involvement with program building, student mentoring, university committees, regional or national organizations, etc., as shown in CV.
