Position Description:

The Department of Philosophy in the College of Arts and Sciences at Texas Tech University invites applications for a full-time, 9-month tenure-track Assistant Professor. We are looking for someone with an Area of Specialization in Metaphysics and Epistemology broadly construed (including, for example, philosophy of cognitive science, philosophy of science, and logic). This position will begin fall 2025.

The Department of Philosophy is an active and dynamic community of diverse scholars with a top-ranked MA program (#5 in the world according to a recent ranking). Our graduate and upper division classes are small, and students can expect to receive a great deal of individual attention from faculty. Members of the faculty mentor both graduate student teaching and individual research projects, including assisting students in preparing papers for regional conferences or for publication. Since our faculty specializations reflect a wide range of research interests, programs of study can reflect breadth as well as depth. We have particular strengths in Ethics, Ancient Philosophy, Metaethics, and Epistemology. Our colloquium series allows students to meet directly with visiting philosophers of national and international renown. Faculty Qualifications:

  • A Ph.D. in philosophy or associated field by the start of appointment.

  • Evidence of research excellence in area of specialization (Metaphysics and Epistemology broadly construed) as displayed in written, presented, and published work.

  • Evidence of research innovation and impact in area of specialization (Metaphysics and Epistemology broadly construed) as displayed in the writing sample and research profile.

  • Evidence of teaching excellence as displayed in the teaching portfolio.
