McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston, a leading academic health center, invites applications for a full-time (1.0 FTE), Professor (Research) non-tenure or tenure position in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery.
The selected candidate will contribute to the department’s mission to educate health science professionals, discover and translate advances in the biomedical and social sciences, and model the best practices in clinical care and public health through research, teaching, clinical service, administrative activities, and other services.
Position Key Accountabilities:
The Professor in Orthopedic Surgery will participate in research, teaching, clinical service, administrative and other activities.
Responsibilities:
Conducting research studies focused on musculoskeletal health, including but not limited to bone, muscle, and joint disorders.
Designing experiments, collecting and analyzing data, and interpreting results.
Collaborating with other researchers, clinicians, and industry partners to develop novel treatments and interventions.
Publishing research findings in peer-reviewed journals and presenting at conferences.
Contributing to grant writing and securing funding for research projects.
Mentoring graduate students and junior researchers.
Supporting the research mission of the department and university through:
Facilitating reasonable and appropriate access to patients by research staff.
Assisting when requested with a collection of research data including biological specimens and
Providing information and education on ongoing research studies to potentially eligible research subjects.
Qualifications:
PhD in a relevant field such as biomechanics, physiology, orthopedics, or a related discipline.
Strong background in musculoskeletal research, with a track record of publications and presentations.
Experience with experimental design, data collection, and statistical analysis.
Proficiency in relevant research methods and techniques, such as biomechanical testing, imaging, and molecular biology.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced research environment.
Prior experience in grant writing and securing research funding is desirable but not required.
