McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston, a leading academic health center, invites applications for a Surgical Pathologist at Lyndon B. Johnson General Hospital. Candidates should be board certified in Anatomic and clinical pathology and be at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Full Professor.

Harris Health LBJ is a 332-bed acute care hospital offering a full range of medical services. Oncology is a cooperative service with MD Anderson. Harris Health LBJ has the states busiest level III, with more than 70,000 emergency patient visits each year. It carries the distinction of being a regional center for neonatal intensive care for high-risk deliveries and provides an array of specialized medical and surgical services. The Pathology services operate in close coordination with the main campus of the Texas Medical Center providing sub-specialty expertise in nearly all disciplines.

Position Key Accountabilities:

Providing training of residents, fellows, and medical students as well as the development of an individual and/or collaborative research program.

  • Serving as a role model in professional behavior and leadership skills, problem-solving ability, and interpersonal skills

  • Collaborating with UTHealth and hospital administration and physicians to identify future opportunities, and define the direction of department services; developing, and implementing plans to achieve identified goals.

  • Maintaining an ongoing departmental Quality Improvement Plan and process consistent with the organizational Quality Management Plan; developing and implementing unit-specific standards, policies, and procedures that guide and support the provision of care and services; continuously assessing and improving assigned departments performance while enhancing service.

  • Participating in and/or chairing committees, work groups, and meetings at appropriate

  • Assuring interdisciplinary performance improvement programs are active, maintained, and ongoing. Following up to ensure that complaints have been satisfactorily handled. Collaborating to maintain a focus on providing excellent services.

  • Maintaining professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, in-services, current literature, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of the latest trends in fields of expertise; supporting and promoting education and research.

  • Medical degree (M.D. or D.O.)

  • Texas Medical license or eligibility for licensure in the State of Texas.

  • Completion of Anatomic Pathology (AP) or Anatomic and Clinical Pathology (AP/CP) Residency with board certification in AP or AP/CP by the American Board of Pathology or Fellowship training and experience in General Surgical Pathology with at least one subspecialty in one of the following areas: Cytopathology, Breast, Gastrointestinal.
