Job Summary and Qualifications

This position exists for the collection of blood from all patients utilizing venipuncture and capillary equipment such as vacutainers, lancets, syringes, microtainers, and other blood collection devices. When necessary, performs glucose testing using glucometer after orientation and demonstration of competency.

What qualifications you will need:

  • Requires high school graduate or equivalent; prefer minimum of 1 year of experience as a phlebotomist. Completion of approved phlebotomy training program desirable.

  • Must have ability to develop typing and computer skills if not previously trained.

  • Must be able to recognize and identify root cause of problems, choose appropriately among resolution alternatives, and implement solutions.

  • Must be able to communicate effectively and skillfully with co-workers, physicians, and patients to ensure high quality laboratory patient care.

  • Demonstrates professional appearance, intelligence, common sense, and positive attitude as standard daily performance; relates positively to persons of all ages, ethnicity, religion, and personality.

  • Ability to remain calm and effectively perform job duties under pressure; demonstrates courteous, professional, cooperative, flexible behavior even when workplace is stressful.

  • Willing to work other shifts as needed to meet laboratory's objective to provide quality laboratory service and patient care.

  • Demonstrates ability to use tact and genuine empathy for all patients, family members, co-workers, hospital staff, and physicians.

  • Adopts and consistently exhibits Customer Service Behaviors: Ownership, Attitude, Teamwork, Communication, Responsiveness, Safety, Privacy, Appearance.
