Thermo Fisher Scientific Financial Analyst III in Tewksbury, Massachusetts

This role will be located in Tewksbury, MA

How you will make an impact:

The Financial Analyst II will partner with the Finance Manager/Staff and Operations to drive process improvements, and leverage close and forecasting activities to ensure financial commitments are met.

What you will do:

  • Drive process improvements and implement new methods to simplify and streamline the close processes

  • Drive process improvements that will eliminate redundant accounting close steps and simplify the close process in terms of review, analysis, and checks for completeness

  • Assist with the preparation of finance and business presentations, including monthly and quarterly business review schedules

  • Support our Annual Budgeting (AOP) process

  • Ensure the timeliness, accuracy, and completeness of monthly close activities

  • Prepare and review accounting entries and evaluate for completeness and accuracy (including, but not limited to):

  • Payroll postings including accruals, corrections, and accruals including bonuses and commissions

  • Employee Benefits Allocations to applicable Cost Centers – Ins, FICA, WC

  • Employee T&E Expense postings and accruals

  • Various Accruals and Adjustments

  • Prepare and review balance sheet account reconciliations, including general ledger accounts and sub ledger accounts

  • Perform and review variance analysis including current-to-prior month / budget / forecast / quarter / year fluctuations

  • Management reporting to corporate accounting through Hyperion Financial Management systems including FDM, FDMEE, Hyperion Planning, and CMR.

  • Preparation and delivery of financial statements for distribution to senior management

  • Partner with operations and business management to support business decisions with ad hoc financial analysis - Involvement in profitability improvement initiatives

  • Support ad-hoc internal, division, group, and corporate requests as needed

How you will get here:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting with strong knowledge of GAAP

  • Strong technical accounting knowledge

Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in accounting or finance roles

  • Manufacturing, along with standard costing would be a plus

  • System and / or process improvement implementations that resulted in reduced close timelines, better information or reporting, or simplification of accounting processes highly desired

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Experience in driving process improvements and able to manage multiple projects effectively

  • High level of proactivity to drive continuous improvement

  • Successful candidate will be personable, ethical and be able to collaborate with business partners at various levels inside and outside the organization

  • Must have superior quantitative skills and analytical capabilities with advanced Excel (comfortable working with pivot tables, vlookups, index match, sumifs, and additional formulas)

  • The successful candidate must be able to translate financial results clearly and concisely to business partners and management

  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple complex situations in a fast-paced environment

  • Flexible and adaptable – particularly around month and quarter end

  • Commitment to continuous learning, career progression and development, embrace additional responsibilities and seek opportunities to stretch capabilities

  • Ability to develop high levels of credibility and forge strong professional relationships with peers, and upper management

  • Effective oral and written communication skills; The ability to communicate analysis and recommendations to management is preferred

  • Self-motivated with a bias for action

  • Experience with JD Edwards, and Hyperion Financial Management systems including FDM, FDMEE, Hyperion Planning, and CMR a plus
