About you and this role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Process Safety Engineer to strengthen our team in the Polyurethanes facility located in Terneuzen, The Netherlands!

This is an excellent opportunity supporting the largest polyol plant in the world (also expanding) and an asset with manufacturing aligned to multiple businesses: PU (Polyols and PU Systems) and Dow Industrial Solutions. This role will have the process safety responsibilities outlined below supporting different areas within Polyurethanes. Finally, this role will also have the opportunity to act as Manufacturing Representative on smaller process safety related or other projects as part of the improvement team, based on project plan and activity level.

The Senior Process Safety Engineer develops and applies technology, management systems, and hazard assessment tools designed to protect people, property, and the environment by controlling the risks of unplanned events such as fires, explosions, and chemical releases. Has the corporate stewardship responsibility to assure that process safety technology, management systems and hazard assessment tools are appropriately applied in the supported business or businesses. Supports a business or geographic region and/or influences changes to Dow Process Safety technology and initiatives. Requires in-depth conceptual and practical knowledge in own job discipline and basic knowledge of related job disciplines.

In this role you will partner with the Process Safety Manager and act as primary back-up.

Responsibilities

  • Partners with the Technology Center and EH&S leaders to develop and implement business strategies for meeting EH&S goals as related to process safety.

  • Works with assigned Technology Centers, develop and implement strategies for defining and implementing Process Safety Most Effective Technology (MET).

  • Defines Process Safety templates and guidance that can be leveraged globally for assigned Technology Centers.

  • Provides local Process Safety support for the facilities, including guidance on interpreting LPPs and local regulations, conducting root cause investigations (RCI) and RCPHAs, approving Management of Change reviews, and supporting other Process Safety requirements as needed.

  • Provides Process Safety expertise for Management of Change, including approval of MOCs as the Process Safety functional reviewer.

  • Participates in RCIs for incidents at business aligned facilities.

  • Ensures Process Safety training for personnel within the business has been implemented.

  • Partners with the Technology Center to Review Process Safety incidents across the technology.

  • Participates in Project Reviews and develops recommendations for addressing process safety issues.

  • Participates in Reactive Chemical/Process Hazard Analyses (RC/PHAs), LOPA studies, EH&S audits and ensures they are completed on time. Develop recommendations for addressing Process Safety deficiencies identified in these reviews.

  • Act as Manufacturing Representative in scoping, engineering and implementation of capital or expense projects as part of the improvement team, based on project plan and activity level.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in Engineering is required.

  • Minimum 4 years of relevant experience (i.e. process safety, engineering, manufacturing, or related).

Your Skills

  • Process Safety Expertise: In-depth knowledge of process safety technology, management systems, and hazard assessment tools to protect people, property, and the environment.

  • Communication and Teamwork: Excellent communication and organizational skills, with the ability to partner with Operations, Technology Centers and EH&S leaders to develop and implement business strategies.

  • Critical Thinking: Critical thinking is the evaluation of facts to form a judgment by using the rational, data-based analysis of factual evidence.

  • Project Management: Leading and supporting continuous improvement activities, participating in project reviews and potentially serving as a project manager or manufacturing representative in specific projects.

  • English language is mandatory. Dutch language is preferred or willingness to learn.

  • Experience with Alkoxylation technology is a plus.
