Incorporated in 2011, North Wind Resource Consulting's core capabilities include environmental documentation and permitting; natural and cultural resource surveys; wildlife and botanical expertise; National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) technical services; historic and prehistoric surveys; environmental consultation such as Section 106 for cultural resources, Section 404 for wetlands, and Section 7 for endangered species); and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and mapping capabilities. North Wind Resource Consulting maintains offices across the country.
POSITION PURPOSE:
The purpose of this position is to provide learning opportunities to the temporary employee and provide them skills that will make them marketable. North Wind will provide a work environment that includes basic and intermediate GIS skill challenges working with real projects and data.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Editing and attributing GIS data
Setting up projects for GPS field collection
Processing photos for project manager reviews
Understanding North Wind project workflow for AGOL and Enterprise Portal
Working with North Wind GIS work request ticketing system
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Understanding and learning data driven pages in GIS
Creating buffers of point and linear cultural features
GPS equipment troubleshooting
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
Must have a BA or BS in a field that utilizes GIS which may include Environmental, Cultural, Natural Resources, or Geological programs and working towards a master's degree in an accredited program. Must have taken at least an introduction to GIS course.
Skills and Abilities:
The candidate must have the basic knowledge of GIS in ESRI ArcGIS Pro and AGOL. Skills need to include basic spatial and attribute editing, creation of metadata, understanding of projections, GPS fundamentals and basic oral and written skills. The candidate must also be detail oriented, organized, and methodical while working through projects.
Special Requirements:
Drug screening will need to be completed prior to employment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Preferred qualifications include advanced GIS courses, archaeology courses, advanced GPS courses or skills, experience in Enterprise GIS Portal, GIS programming or drone technologies.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
General office work physical duties and will include picking up GPS unit kits (10 lbs).
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Work will be mostly indoors in an office environment. There may be some occasional outdoor (parking lot) requirements to test GPS equipment.
