UL, LLC Certification Engineer - Building Envelope in Telford, United Kingdom

For the last 100+ years our BE teams have been supporting our customers in 4 main areas: Building & Construction, Fire Safety & Security, Building Quality & Compliance and Personal Protective Equipment.

Reporting to the Senior Engineering Manager, our Certification Engineer will autonomously manage the execution and timely completion of Building Envelope projects, by analyzing project scope and determining project specifications, establishing test programs for product investigations, and preparing reports for clients as part of the Built Environment business.

The ideal candidate would be someone who is keen to work for an international company such as UL Solutions, to explore the experience of corporate business.

This role will be supporting the growing team in the EMEA region with incentives to travel to different manufacturing sites and testing facilities globally. You will be working with global engineers to gain better understanding on different areas of work from testing to European test standards and also to be involved in supporting the team with third part certification.

  • Determines project scope, develops a preliminary plan of investigation, and determines project specifications such as cost, time, and sample requirements by analyzing client input, available supplemental data, and product construction.

  • Initiates communication with clients to promote and explain the benefits of new and existing services.

  • Follows up on contacts from clients. Communicates with clients to discuss technical issues, explain UL procedures and requirements, cost, completion date and sample requirements.\

  • Provides technical assistance to clients in reference to product inspection and follow-up services.

  • Establishes appropriate test programs. Notifies client of any areas in which the product is not in compliance with UL requirements or of any changes in project scope or specifications.

  • Witnessing tests and/or off-site manufacturer witness tests.

  • Third Party Certification.

  • Coordinates laboratory activities by preparing data sheets and instructions to technicians, scheduling and reviewing work of Laboratory Technicians and establishing completion dates.

  • Communicates project status and results to clients through frequent contact and by preparing reports.

  • Integrates continuous improvement concepts and techniques into all aspects of the job.

  • Resolves engineering issues associated with Variation Notices by analyzing and reporting on the acceptability of the variations.

  • Proposes development of new and/or revised UL requirements. Develops special test methods and test equipment. Coordinates and/or performs File Reviews.

  • Technical High School diploma or a degree from an accredited university through a formal program of study in Engineering.

  • Directly related work experience in TIC projects management.

  • Familiar with Third Party Certification, UKCA & CE Marks and EN Test standards.

  • Working knowledge of conformity standards in use in areas of expertise as well as technical vocabulary common to Built Environment.

  • Working knowledge of industry issues, needs and problems.

  • A strong team player who is able to successfully collaborate with the team, clients and stakeholders.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and strong customer focus.
