Fairleigh Dickinson University Lecturer of Criminology & Criminal Justice - Metro in Teaneck, New Jersey

Job Summary:

This position reports to the Chair / Deputy Chair of the Department of Criminology & Criminal Justice. The lecturer will teach a 4-4 course load of required criminal justice courses in the undergraduate and graduate programs. The program Chair / Deputy Chair will determine course assignments each semester in consultation with the lecturer. Courses may include, but will not be limited to, Introduction to Criminal Justice, Criminology, Professional & Legal Writing, Criminal Justice Research Methods, and Criminal Justice Ethics.

The lecturer will also perform academic advising for students in the criminal justice major.

Job Duties:

  • Teach four courses per semester in the undergraduate and graduate programs in criminal justice.

  • Advise criminal justice students prior to registration in the Fall and Spring.

  • Attend department meetings.

  • Attend Becton College faculty meetings.

  • Special projects as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • PhD in criminal justice or closely related field, or an M.A. plus several years of field experience in a criminal justice profession.

    • Prior college level teaching experience.

    • The lecturer must be a generalist who can teach a broad range of topics in the discipline.

    • Field experience and/or research experience in criminal justice highly preferred.

  • Employment is contingent upon a satisfactory background check. Candidates for hire will be required to sign a waiver authorizing the background check and produce a Social Security Card.
