POSITION SUMMARY\ The Certified Nursing Assistant cares for residents under the direction and supervision of a registered\ nurse or a licensed practical/vocational nurse. The position requires patience, compassion and a desire to\ care for the residents in a gentle and empathetic manner.\ QUALIFICATIONS\ Education and/or Experience:\ • High School Graduate/GED\ Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:\ • Must be a Certified Nursing Assistant in good standing with the certification board or is a\ graduate of a state approved nursing assistant training program and passed a state approved\ competency examination (written and skills) within 120 days of employment; name entered into\ state nurse aide registry.\ Minimum Qualifications:\ • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.\ • Must be able to express self adequately in written and oral communication and to communicate\ effectively in an interdisciplinary care setting with residents, families, and staff members.\ • Freedom from use of and effects of drugs and alcohol in the workplace.\ • Meets state and federal criminal background check requirements.\ ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES\ To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each key function satisfactorily.\ Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the key\ functions.\ • Takes and records vital signs.\ • Measures and records height and weight.\ • Records weight gain or loss.\ • Records fluid intake and output.\ • Cares for the resident's environment.\ • Recognizes abnormal changes in body functioning and the importance of reporting such changes\ to a supervisor.\ • Provides post mortem care\ • Makes routine rounds on each assigned resident every two hours.\ • Bathes residents.\ • Assists with grooming, including mouth care.\ • Dresses residents.\ • Toilets residents.\ • Assists with eating and hydration.

• Uses proper feeding techniques.\ • Records percentage of meal eaten.\ • Observes resident's skin when giving care and reports changes to licensed nurse.\ • Provides skin care.\ • Transfers, positions and turns residents.\ • Meets resident's mental health and social service needs.\ • Modifies own behavior in response to residents' behaviors.\ • Is aware of developmental tasks associated with the aging process.\ • Knows how to respond to residents' behaviors.\ • Allows residents to make personal choices.\ • Provides and reinforces other behavior consistent with the residents' dignity.\ • Contributes to the resident's assessment (MDS/CAA's) and the plan of care.\ • Provides nursing rehabilitation/restorative nursing services\ 1. Promote resident's ability to adopt and adjust to living as independently as possible.\ 2. Assists the resident in self-care according to the resident's abilities.\ 3. Assists the resident in the use of assistive devices for transferring, walking and mobility,\ dressing and grooming, eating and swallowing.\ 4. Maintains range of motion; proper turning and positioning in bed and chair.\ 5. Assists with bowel and bladder retraining.\ 6. Instructs the resident on the care and use of prosthetic and orthotic devices.\ 7. Incorporates training and skill practice activities, which include repetition, physical or\ verbal cueing and task segmentation.\ • Cares for residents with Dementia\ 1.
