General Summary
The Office of the Secretary is accepting applications for a Senate Page Program Coordinator to oversee the Senate Page Program. The Senate Page Program is a long-established, prestigious public service program for Florida students aged 15-18. Students who are accepted into the Program each spend a week serving the Florida Senate during the Regular Legislative Session.
This is a full-time position, and the successful candidate will undergo a Level 2 criminal background screening by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE: Pursuant to sections 112.3144 and 112.3145, F.S., this position is required to electronically file a Form 1 –Statement of Financial Interests (https://disclosure.floridaethics.gov/2023/form/1/instructions/print) with the Florida Commission on Ethics within 30 days of hire.
Examples of Work Performed
Facilitating program activities such as lesson plans, tours of government buildings, and deliveries within the Senate
Teaching topics such as the legislative process, public speaking, and the Florida Constitution
Managing student applications and communications related to the program
Processing confidential information
Responding to time-sensitive requests
Scheduling visits with senators and other elected officials
Training and supervising two (2) Temporary Session OPS employees who will assist with the program activities
Maintains financial or other administrative records, monitors budgetary activities, and prepares status reports.
Assists in formulating, interpreting, applying, and assuring conformance with administrative policies and procedures.
Assesses training needs, establishes priorities and guidelines, identifies resources, and develops training programs for Legislators and staff.
Reviews and monitors seminars and workshops presented and conducts studies to improve effectiveness and efficiency of training programs.
Performs other related duties as required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures of accounting, human resource, budgeting, purchasing, staff development, or training.
Knowledge of relevant computer programs and become familiar with Microsoft Office Excel and Survey Monkey
Ability to Maintain confidentiality and remain nonpartisan
Ability to Demonstrate good attendance, punctuality, and a positive attitude
Ability to Supervise and manage adolescent Pages through their Program experience and manage two (2) Temporary Session OPS employees
Ability to determine work priorities, assign work, and ensure proper completion of work assignments.
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing and demonstrate strong communication skills, such as public speaking and reading
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Ability to formulate policies and procedures.
Ability to understand and apply related rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
Ability to work independently.
Ability to solve problems and make decisions.
Ability to use tact and exercise good judgment when interacting with Legislators and staff, other agencies, and the public.
Ability to make presentations and promote programs.
Ability to coordinate and schedule training classes and plan, organize, assignments and activities
Minimum Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in accounting, business or public administration, or a related field and three years of professional experience in accounting, auditing, budgeting, human resource, staff development or training, purchasing, research, analysis, program planning and evaluation, or administrative work; or
A master’s degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, possession of a Certified Public Accountant (C.P.A.) Certificate, business or public administration can substitute for one year of the required experience.
Professional experience as described above can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education
