The Work You Will Do:

OPS Government Operations Consultant II (Interpretive Specialist – Project Management) (37970144)

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection is seeking a well-organized individual with the ability to effectively work well with others as a project manager for interpretive projects to serve the needs of the Division of Recreation and Parks (Florida State Parks). Florida State Parks span the entire state with 175 state parks and trails. This position is part of the team charged with connecting visitors to the park resources. This position may schedule up to 40 hours per week.

    Pay:

    $18.00 - $20.00 per hour (commensurate with experience)

    Your Specific Responsibilities:

    Provides support to the Interpretive Services section of the Bureau of Operational Services, specifically through the coordination and management of interpretive resources and programs.

  • Plan, implement and monitor project workflows to ensure the effective coordination of signature statewide programs including the Junior Ranger, Virtual Junior Ranger, Operation Recreation geotour, and Operation Recreation Kids geotour programs.This includes setting expectations, providing clear resources, procuring materials, monitoring project timelines, reporting and evaluating participation.

  • Work with parks, districts, bureaus, departments, state agencies, external partners and stakeholders to facilitate state park participation in targeted events and activities to include but are not limited to First Day Hikes, Earth Day, Kids to Parks Day, Junior Ranger Jamborees, National Public Lands Day, International Coastal Clean Up, and Girl Scouts Love State Parks. This coordination also includes other theme-driven or monthly celebratory events such as Trails Month and State Parks Month, celebratory events such as Florida’s Prescribed Fire Awareness week and special designation days such as National Gopher Tortoise Day.

  • Develop appropriate personal program resources to support roving and pop up programming for division priority messages that enhance visitor experiences.

  • Evaluate projects and division needs to improve engagement and meet objectives.

  • Develop communication, program materials and execute presentations to guide interpretive processes and support staff and partner development.

  • Perform routine statewide travel for responsible projects.

  • Support workload of program area and other bureaus and perform other duties as assigned.

    Success in this position requires a dynamic individual capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously, easily adapting to change, and possessing a true spirit of service.

  • Personal experience with developing themed interpretive materials for target audiences

  • Personal experience with interpreting Florida’s natural and cultural resources successfully

  • Ability to anticipate and adjust work to maintain timelines

  • Produce effective results for assigned projects
