Product Operations Principal Engineer

When Dell Technologies launches new game-changing products into the global market, Product Operations Engineering has a vital role to play. The team coordinates all the operational activities that enable products to be introduced and sustained successfully. It’s about making sure there is consistency between production and test environments. It’s about ensuring hardware, software and networking changes are migrated into the production environment in a stable and controlled way. And it’s about creating build processes, coordinating product builds for release into production and setting up configuration specifications for releases.

What you’ll achieve

Conduct design for manufacturing ability reviews, analyzes, documents and validates mechanical components and assemblies. Conducts and participates in engineering design review to validate the robustness and proper performance of new products. Interfaces with suppliers, electrical engineering, manufacturing, quality, engineering and other development groups to ensure the successful development and launch of new products.

You will:

  • Leads efforts of internal and external mechanical design for manufacturing review with global manufacturing teams in all new product launch activities.

  • Conducts operational feasibility studies for new product and new manufacturing process introduction in the factory environment

  • Engages management and teams to determine feasibility/potential of projects

  • Decides which projects to work on; establishes leader buy-in as needed; leads project team to deliver results as committed; communicates updates and status to all associated partners

  • Creates factory strategies and plans for Worldwide Operations based on product plans and roadmaps

Essential Requirements

  • Thorough understanding of the mechanical development process and an expert in planning and executing associated development activities

  • Various engineering discipline and development / manufacturing process knowledge.

  • Advanced command skills to assist in the implementation and execution of programs and initiatives.

  • Provides leadership for ensuring that product designs and operational processes are optimized

  • Able to identify, prioritize and influence absolute requirements into product designs

Desirable Requirements

  • Typically requires 8+ years of mechanical design related experience in a professional role with a Bachelor’s degree; or 4+ years with a Master’s degree; or 1+ year with a PhD; or equivalent experience.
