We provide stormwater, wastewater, and solid waste services to the citizens of Tacoma.   We operate and maintain over 700 miles of wastewater pipes and 500 miles of stormwater pipes, along with 53 pump stations, two wastewater treatment plants and several stormwater treatment systems.  The wastewater treatment plants clean approximately 25 million gallons of wastewater each day, ensuring that only clean water is released into Commencement Bay.  Who you will be working with:  You will be joining our Science and Engineering (S&E) Division which provides engineering, planning, program management and laboratory services to the City's wastewater, stormwater, and solid waste utilities.  S&E primary works on:

  • Design and construction of capital improvement projects related to the wastewater, stormwater, and solid waste utilities' infrastructure.
  • Stormwater related programs including management of NPDES permit and open space. 
  • Asset management and application development 
  • Environmental remediation projects 
  • Stormwater and wastewater sampling and analyses utilizing our in-house laboratory.

*Your Team: *   You will be part of the Asset Management Group (AMG) within the S&E Division which is responsible for asset management related activities for the collection systems, pump stations and treatment plants.  This includes performing condition assessment, treatment process studies, long range planning, scoping of capital improvement projects and the management of the Capital Improvement Plan.  In addition, the group maintains the department's GIS system and performs application development to support the business needs of the department.

 

Your Responsibilities:  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

Assess the condition of assets using internal video inspections and other inspection technology.

Assist with developing mitigation strategies for assets through a holistic and phased approach into defined capital improvement projects.

Evaluate capacity requirements.

Assist the Planning Department with technical questions from developers. 

Perform reviews on engineering plans.

Respond to requests for information from field crews, colleagues, management, and general public with regards to the wastewater and stormwater collections systems.

Assist with performing hydraulic modeling analysis to identify and develop mitigation strategies to address capacity deficiencies in the wastewater and stormwater collection systems.  

Define project scope, perform cost estimates and coordinate with other departments to establish project partnership agreements.

Evaluate system impacts related to new development.

Procure and administer contracts with consultants providing engineering and professional services.  Coordinate and review the work of the outside consultant.  Manage the contract scope and budget to control costs and ensure delivered work is acc
