SUNY Upstate Medical University Social Worker – Regional Perinatal Center and Women’s Health Services in Syracuse, New York
Job Summary:
In this position, the Regional Perinatal Center and Women’s Health Services Social Worker provides comprehensive psycho-social assessment, management, and support to OBGYN patients at UHCC. In this role, the social worker will provide support to women and families as they navigate medical challenges, process complex information about pregnancies, and access community support. The social worker also provides mental health services focused on women’s health issues, related to reproductive health, providing counseling and support to patients experiencing challenges during pregnancy, childbirth, menopause, or related gynecological concerns. Social work provides psychosocial consultation through assessment, brief counseling, intervention, planning, and referrals to meet the psycho-social needs of patients. Additionally, the social worker will manage patients through collaboration, coordination, monitoring, and identifying resources to meet the patient’s needs. Candidate must possess strong written and verbal communication skills, have knowledge of available community resources, and participate in departmental meetings/in-services, education, and quality improvement activities. Upstate Social Workers perform other relevant duties as assigned including back-up coverage and support for other social workers to meet operational needs.
Minimum Qualifications:
L.M.S.W., L.C.S.W. or eligible, 3 years relevant post-master's experience (preferably in a hospital and/or healthcare environment) required. New M.S.W. graduates who are L.M.S.W. eligible will be considered for appointment to entry level (SL2) position at a commensurate salary after obtaining a Limited Permit. Incumbent must obtain L.M.S.W. within 12 months of receipt of limited permit.
Preferred Qualifications:
Preferred knowledge of maternal mental health and women’s health issues is preferred.
Work Days:
Monday-Friday 8:30 am -5:00 pm with occasional on-call/holiday coverage on rotation based on operational needs
