Crouse Hospital Nutritional Services Worker in Syracuse, New York

Under the direction of the Department Supervisor, the Nutritional Services Worker performs a variety of nutrition services activities related to the setting up of serving areas and the serving of food to patients, guests, visitors and staff; maintain cleanliness of nutrition services facilities and provide a superior level of customer service.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  1. Consistently provides the highest level of customer service to all patients, guests, visitors and employees.

  2. Professionally completes a variety of nutritional services duties within all areas of the cafeteria and hospital, including but not limited to: tray pass, dish room, tray line, and to various patient areas.

  3. Promptly replenishes necessary supplies for specific work areas and accurately takes inventory on all patient care units to ensure par levels of supplies are maintained.

  4. Courteously introduces self to employees within patient units and ensures safe delivery and removal of patient food trays.

  5. Properly completes distribution of meals to patients within patient room. This includes adhering to correct procedures to enter and leave room; checking patient ID to ensure the correct patient receives the correct meal and maintaining a professional and courteous manner.

  6. Competently stocks and displays a variety of food items within refrigerated/heated display cabinets and self serve salad bar.

  7. Proactively notify department leadership to any comments or suggestions received by patrons that may potentially enhance the nutritional services program.

  8. Consistently adheres to proper safety procedures when using all equipment. Proactively identifies equipment in need of repair/maintenance and promptly alerts departmental leadership.

  9. Properly stores and restocks refrigerated and frozen foods ensuring that all containers are correctly covered and accurately dated.

  10. Properly prepares a wide variety of food, beverages, and deserts in accordance with departmental prep sheets and as directed by department leadership. This may occasionally include large orders for catered events.

  11. Meticulously maintains the highest levels of cleanliness and sanitation of the work area, including equipment, utensils, and specified storage areas.

  12. Consistently adheres to all departmental policies/procedures and regularly participates in employee meetings and in-service training sessions.

  13. Properly stores and restocks refrigerated and frozen foods ensuring that all containers are correctly covered and accurately dated.

  14. Retrieves tray tickets and places the correct item on the patient tray in a timely and accurate manner.

  15. Frequently gathers and disposes of departmental waste utilizing dumpster and compactor according to existing policies and procedures.

  16. Utilizes a variety of cleaning solutions, chemicals and equipment to maintain cleanliness of department equipment, garbage cans and utensils. Regularly checks soap and paper towel dispensers and replenishes stock, as needed.

  17. Properly washes and sanitizes all pots, pans, utensils and returns them to their proper storage areas.

  18. Assumes other duties as assigned by department leadership.

    Education and Certification Requirements

    Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

    SPECIAL SKILLS/EQUIPMENT

  • Basic computer skills to complete tasks via email using Microsoft Outlook and annual educational requirements via the internet.

    Hourly Rate Range

    $15.00 - $20.33/hour
