SUNY Upstate Medical University LPN - Cardiology in Syracuse, New York

Job Summary:

Technical procedures Maintain proficiency, and perform on a regularly assigned basis:

  • Start IVs, administer medications and intravenous solutions skillfully and accurately.

  • Stress testing regular, thallium and pharmacologic

  • Hook-up holter monitors

  • ECGs, pacemaker checks, cardiac event recorders

  • Telephone triage under the direction of RN and/or MD

  • Patient teaching

  • Assist the physicians and physician extenders in their daily routine

  • Be aware of location of emergency equipment; follow emergency protocol as necessary

  • Maintain sample medication supply when necessary

  • Coumadin clinic as per protocol.

  • Perform other related duties, as assigned

  • Report blood work to patient per physician instruction.

  • Record concise, accurate and complete information regarding patient history, medications, teaching, etc., as per policy.

Support and assist head nurse as necessary:

  • Floats as requested by Nurse Manager to ensure adequate coverage

  • Attend nursing staff meetings, participating in sharing knowledge, information and ideas among team members.

  • Assist in the orientation of new personnel when requested.

Assure a safe and productive environment of patients and staff members:

  • Follow procedures set for adherence to the safety guidelines and policies of the practice and OSHA (i.e., cleaning of equipment and instruments, etc). Inform Nurse Manager of any areas for concern.

  • Perform other duties in any area necessary to insure the safe and effective operation of the practice.

Completion of necessary paperwork:

  • Complete forms at Licensed Practical Nurse level of expertise (i.e., insurance, compensation, disability).

    Minimum Qualifications:

NYS licensed/registered LPN. Current CPR certification through the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Prior experience in an outpatient setting (speciality area) strongly preferred.

Work Days:

Monday - Friday daytime hours.
