SUNY Upstate Medical University Associate Professor/Medical Physicist in Syracuse, New York

Job Summary:

Perform overview and routine quality control of all treatment dose calculations, consultations concerning radiation therapy planning, and determination of the radiation output of all radiation therapy treatment units. Provide technical assistance in the development of treatment plans, positioning and monitoring for patients undergoing radiation therapy; maintain established policies, procedures, objectives, quality measurement, and safety. Assist Radiation

Oncologists where appropriate with radioactive seed implant cases (Brachytherapy, other special procedures). Determine shielding requirements for therapy and imaging equipment installations, recommend performance specifications for new/existing equipment selection. Determine radiation dosimetry characteristics for radiation

therapy machine and sources. Collaborate with physicians and technologists on clinical applications of equipment and radiation source. Keep abreast of the research of new techniques, physics methods and equipment. Provide education and training of medical physics and radiation safety for physicians, nurses, technologists and other Medical Center personnel as needed on a regular and an interval basis.

Will provide services to the Department of Radiation Oncology that includes the Upstate Cancer Center, Hill Radiation Oncology, Oswego Radiation Oncology, and the Upstate Cancer Center at Verona.

Minimum Qualifications:

Doctoral degree in Physics; Certification (or eligible) in Therapeutic Medical Physics from the American Board of Radiology (ABR) or American Board of Medical Physics (ABMP), New York State License (or eligible) in Therapeutic Radiological Medical Physics and experience in Radiation Oncology Physics.
