SUNY Upstate Medical University Associate Chief Medical Officer for Ambulatory Services in Syracuse, New York

Job Summary:

Jointly reporting to the University Hospital Chief Medical Officer and the President of UUMAS, the Associate Chief Medical Officer for Ambulatory Services serves as a member of the hospital and faculty practice plan leadership team and is responsible for the management of Ambulatory operations, to include clinical practice operations, medical affairs, quality and reporting programs and issues. The Associate Chief Medical Officer for Ambulatory Services will help improve and coordinate ambulatory operational efficiency, direct ambulatory strategy and healthcare system transformation for provider-based clinics. They will also be available to collaborate and support in private clinics as appropriate. The Associate Chief Medical Officer for Ambulatory Services will work in a matrixed Ambulatory leadership model with nurse and administrative leaders who will be responsible collectively for driving strategy and operations across ambulatory services. The Ambulatory Leadership Team will be jointly accountable to the Clinical Officer Leadership Team (COLT) and the President of UUMAS.

The Associate Chief Medical Officer for Ambulatory Services will be responsible for the operational success of the hospital provider-based ambulatory practices and is charged to lead focused initiatives to assure efficient operations to create and support exceptional patient service, faculty and staff satisfaction, growth and volume management, and financial performance. The Associate Chief Medical Officer for Ambulatory Services is also responsible for partnering with the Chief Quality Officer to monitor quality assurance and to drive quality improvement across ambulatory clinics. The main areas of focus are operational efficiency to improve patient access and achievement of quality measures for required monitoring and reporting. The Associate Chief Medical Officer for Ambulatory Services is expected to spend about 25% effort engaged in ambulatory practice relating to her/his specialty.

In providing leadership for Ambulatory Services for University Hospital, this position must demonstrate a passion for the mission together with a personal commitment of collaboration, innovation, inclusion, transparency, trust building, and political leadership.

Minimum Qualifications:

A physician licensed and/or eligible for licensure by the State of New York who is qualified for membership on the Medical Staff. Board Certified in an American Board of Medical Specialties approved specialty with experience in ambulatory clinical practice required. A minimum of 5 years of demonstrated accomplishment as a physician leader in an academic medical center and/or large medical group practice required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with Ambulatory Operations, Quality Improvement and Outcomes Management. Knowledge of hospital ambulatory clinic accreditation standards preferred. Experience in clinics with post-graduate students is highly desired.

Work Days:

Monday-Fridays, hours in between 7am-7pm
