Carpenter/General Laborer (Summer Seasonal)

The seasonal Carpenter/General Laborer will support our Carpenters with the construction, installation, repair and removal of aluminum and wooden wheelchair ramps, low-rise steps, grab-bars and handrails, and other accessibility projects in consumer homes. These accessible modifications do more than just improve safety; your work will help to provide continued access to friends, family and other community relationships.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Selects tools, equipment, and materials to complete assigned home modification projects
  • Uses hand tools to dig and shape ground in preparation for placement of ramp sections
  • May use circular saw, miter saw, table saw, router, power auger, and various drills to prepare lumber for ramp installations
  • Uses various tools and equipment to fasten timbers with screws, bolts, lags and nails
  • Interprets construction drawings and completes measurements related to modification projects
  • Assists in loading and unloading vehicles and trailers to and from work sites
  • Cleans work areas and equipment to maintain a clean and safe jobsite
  • Drives to work site location using company vehicle
  • Demonstrates welcoming and positive attitude toward the needs, abilities, and rights of persons with disabilities
  • Uses computer to complete work logs and project notes

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated construction and carpentry experience
  • Knowledge of and ability to use tools described above
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings
  • Construction and repair-related problem-solving skills
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to successfully complete an FBI/BCI background check, physical exam, and motor vehicle report in accordance with insurance carrier guidelines.

Essential Physical Demands: Work performed while standing for long periods of time.  Ability to use hand tools, electric tools, and other equipment necessary to complete tasks. Ability to safely move heavy pieces of equipment, lumber, aluminum pieces from vehicles to work sites. Work requires lifting up to 75 lbs. while performing job duties and may lift more with two or more individuals assisting.  Movement of equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. This position frequently communicates with others and may do so in various ways as able.

The work environment includes frequently being outdoors with possible inclement weather including cold and warm temperatures. Will travel to consumer homes and work outside and inside of property depending on the job assignment. The noise level in the work environment is considered moderate.
