    Litigation Counsel, Australia

    Aon is currently recruiting a Litigation Counsel to join our team based in Sydney.

    You will be a trusted advisor to Aon Australia’s businesses and an integral part of the Aon Australia and Pacific Legal & Compliance team, reporting to Aon’s Australian Head of Litigation and Chief Counsel.

    What your day will look like

  • Provide high quality legal advice and services to Aon’s Australian business with a focus on contentious (litigation and dispute) matters

  • Primarily manage professional negligence claims (E&Os) involving Aon’s insurance brokers and other colleagues or businesses; support and manage investigations (including regulatory and workplace investigations), intellectual property, regulatory and various other disputes

  • Advise and manage Aon’s response to subpoenas and document requests

  • Support the Australian Legal & Compliance teams to advise the business on a wide range of contentious matters including regulatory issues, complaints, legal developments, commercial contracts, new business initiatives, corporate governance and risk mitigation (including identification and remediation of risk and reporting on risk)

  • Assist with the preparation of training and marketing materials and internal policies; deliver training to Aon colleagues.

    Skills and experience that will lead to success

    This position will suit someone who has strong legal and problem solving skills. Suitable people will also have:

  • Law Degree and admitted to practice law in New South Wales with a valid practicing certificate.

  • Minimum of 5 years post-qualification experience acquired in a top or middle tier law firm and/or inhouse, preferably in the financial services/insurance sector.

  • Experience in litigation, claims or disputes work.

  • Experience in insurance/professional indemnity disputes and/or employment law is beneficial but not crucial.

  • Strong people and stakeholder management skills with ability to work with others under pressure and to resolve conflict in a constructive manner.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (both orally and in writing) with ability to effectively communicate ideas to sophisticated internal and external clients together with ability to persuade and negotiate effectively.

  • An ability to process delicate and highly confidential information with discretion.

  • Ability to work efficiently, accurately and autonomously and manage multiple engagements and processes simultaneously.
