Purpose/Introduction

Chevron Phillips Chemical is seeking a Rotating Equipment Reliability Engineer to join our team at our facility in Sweeny, Texas. This position provides technical expertise, troubleshooting skills, and project support to the facility. The Rotating Equipment Reliability Team is responsible for providing machinery technical support and predictive technologies to develop and maintain programs that enhance the reliability and integrity of rotating machinery at Sweeny/Old Ocean. This individual must have an understanding of multiple rotating machinery elements, working knowledge of reliability best practices, and the ability to effectively communicate detailed technical issues to their stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the Mechanical Integrity & Reliability Program and ensure that compliance System of Record is accurate and updated

  • Perform in-depth reviews of rotating equipment and make recommendations and corrective actions to improve equipment reliability

  • Develop and implement action plans to eliminate identified failure modes, including but not limited to modifications and changes

  • Support efforts that involve design engineering changes, maintenance procedure changes, preventive maintenance changes, and life cycle cost analysis

  • Maintain accurate status of all mechanical equipment, develop and maintain history and performance to reveal bad & worst actors list

  • Communicate plant equipment issues and findings to Operations and Maintenance

  • Participate and advise in developing plans for major shutdowns, construction or alteration projects where mechanical inspections will be critical to the accomplishment of the work

  • Lead and participate in investigations to identify and eliminate the root cause of failures

  • Provide Engineering Support and QA/QC for Turnarounds and unplanned outages

  • Help lead and develop the Reliability culture at the site by being an advocate for Reliability best practices and initiatives throughout the company.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering with minimum 5 years of manufacturing experience

  • Knowledge of mechanical standards and various Codes as applied in petrochemical industry (i.e. API, ASME, ANSI, NFPA)

  • The ability to communicate detailed technical information to the appropriate stakeholders within the organization

  • Experience in root cause analysis and incident investigations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience with rotating equipment (reliability, design, projects, maintenance, etc.)

  • Experience with Reliability best practices (Bad Actors List, RCAs, PM Development, etc)

  • Experience in Polyethylene production facility

  • Experience with Meridium APM and SAP
