Purpose/Introduction
Chevron Phillips Chemical – Sweeny, Clemens, Old Ocean (SCO) is seeking an Environmental Engineer/Specialist to join our team. The Environmental Engineer/Specialist will support regulatory compliance associated with the coordination of all activities related to Consent Decree compliance by managing the environmental data acquisition and handling system (DAHS) as well as emissions tracking; including system improvements. The Environmental Engineer/Specialist is responsible for performing detailed calculation and equation reviews for flares, furnaces, combustion units, and other emissions sources. This individual must manage multiple priorities concurrently and drive to completion environmentally focused projects. This is an on-site role, and the Environmental Engineer / Specialist will interface with people in roles ranging from crafts to management.
Responsibilities
Serve as environmental DAHS lead
Perform and audit emission calculations and formulas
Lead the management and maintenance of the environmental DAHS
Conduct calculation syntax reviews and implement required updates
Coordinate company personnel and additional resources for continuous DAHS management
Serve as a subject matter expert in the Clean Air Act and other environmental regulations
Communicate with key stakeholders to drive environmental compliance
Prepare and participate in regulatory compliance assessments, gap analysis, and help deploy compliance solutions
Evaluate and provide support for projects, NSR, and Title V activities
Interact with regulatory agencies with respect to audits, investigations, emission events and other enforcement matters.
Perform other environmental related work as assigned
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, environmental sciences, or other scientific discipline OR a high school diploma with a minimum of 7 years of data acquisition and handling system experience
Ability to gain knowledge and understanding of the manufacturing units and processes and determine which environmental regulations and requirements are applicable
Effective at working with different departments both individually and in a team environment
Ability to resolve conflicts and reach agreements with other functional groups
Knowledge of environmental laws, regulations, and permits
Communicates effectively at all levels in the organization
Self-motivated (operating with minimal day-to-day work direction) with excellent written and analytical skills
Preferred Qualifications
Experience implementing DAHS
Ability to read and troubleshoot syntax with basic coding knowledge
Three (3)+ years of experience working with environmental regulations and compliance
Three (3)+ years of experience in working within a chemical/refinery setting
Experience with developing and implementing environmental calculations
Experience managing complex projects
Good communication, critical thinking, and problem solving skills
Experience and knowledge of StackVision and other specialty applications
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)
Ability to learn on the go and prioritize key tasks
