Idaho Department of Labor General Farmworker/Irrigation Worker in Swan Valley, Idaho

This order is for work in the Swan Valley, Idaho area. Applicant must have 20 days experience as a general farm worker/irrigator/livestock worker and the name and number of the reference who has firsthand knowledge and can verify the worker\'s experience. Worker will be required to perform a variety of duties related to the production of alfalfa, native grass seed, wildflowers, oats, greens and livestock. The majority of the work activities during the overall contract period, however, will be related to general farm work/irrigation/crop production. Worker will be required to perform a variety of duties related to the production of alfalfa, native grass seed, wildflowers, oats, evergreens, and livestock. The majority of the work activities during the overall contract period, however, will be related to general farm work/irrigation/crop production. General Farm Work will include the following responsibilities: maintain, drive, attach, and operate farm implements/tractors/equipment to till soil, plant, cultivate, fertilize, harvest crops, and transport livestock; make minor mechanical adjustments and repairs on farm machinery; may mix and/or spray chemicals (according to appropriate restrictive use laws, when/if applicable); remove undesirable and excess growth from crops or farm grounds; remove rocks from field; paint/repair/maintain farm structures; replace/repair fencing; perform general cleanup of farm areas; drive, load/unload trucks; operate vehicle, motor bike, or all-terrain vehicle in the course of performing duties; transport crops to market; prepare fields/plant/spray/weed and irrigate plants/shrubs/trees; sow seed and plant cuttings; recognize disease and/or nutrient/moisture requirements by plant texture/development or soil condition; observe general condition of plants and apply the appropriate care; read/interpret meters used to regulate/control environmental conditions; mix planting soil; pollinate/prune/transplant/pinch plants and cull appropriately to ensure development of product; harvest, pack, and store crop; maintain and repair structures/grounds; haul and spread soil/products to condition land; sow grass seed and/or plant plugs of sod; cut/roll/stack/load and unload sod; mow/tend sod; trap/poison pests; plant shrubs/plants in containers; prepare flowers/plants/shrubs/trees to fill orders; move containerized trees/shrubs; dig/wrap roots of shrubs/trees; prepare crops for shipment; perform general cleanup of farm areas, orchards and fields; pruning and thinning from the ground or a ladder up to 12 feet in height or from a motorized platform; identify and remove stubs or broken branches, downward-growing branches, branches which rub against each other, shaded interior branches, dead wood and shoots/suckers with hand pruning saws and clippers and mechanized equipment; train and position tree limbs; prop and tie tree limbs; care for trees during growing process; pick up/handle/climb ladders; clear property; plant trees; build trellises, spread composted material; clean fields after harvest; operate tree spade attached to skid steer loader; pick, harvest, sort, and gather crop by hand; place crop in buckets or bags; identify and remove crop that is misshapen, damaged, or inferior; prune trees using a variety of pruning equipment including hand shears, hand loppers, hand saws, and 12-foot ladders; recognize tree disease such as blighted branches in apples and gummosis in cherries; inspect growing crops for signs of disease, insect manifestations, worms, or rot; load crops on trucks or field conveyors. Drip irrigation duties will include the following: move and lay drip irrigation equipment in fields; turn on system and verify proper functioning; maintain/repair/inspect drip irrigation daily; flush/blo out drip irrigation lines; connect pipes; check alignment of pipe and adjust for proper water distribution; attach lines to water supply; turn on pump; turn valves to start flow of water. Occasional duties related to the care of horses will include the following: check physical characteristics, observe general condition of livestock and apply the appropriate care; examine animals to detect illness/injury/disease, rate of weight gain or to determine offspring delivery time; assist in delivery; apply or administer medications, vaccines and/or insecticides; mix feed/additives and feed/water livestock; place mineral blocks; drive equipment to haul/distribute feed/water; herd livestock; confine livestock in stalls; clean corrals/stalls/sheds; clean/disinfect livestock.
