       License and Certification Qualifications: Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required. School Passenger and School (P&S) Bus required within six months of hire. Master Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) School Bus Technician and T8 Truck Preventive Maintenance and Inspections required within 12 months of hire. S7 School Bus Air Conditioning Systems & Controls certification is preferredEducation Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent required. Automotive/diesel service technician training at an accredited technical school preferred.Experience Qualifications: Seven years experience as an automotive/diesel service technician required.Skills Qualifications: Ability to follow oral and written instructions quickly and accurately; knowledge of motor vehicle parts, materials, maintenance tools, hazards, and safety procedures; ability to train and supervise other technicians and helpers; knowledge of the handling and disposal of hazardous wastes; ability to use computers, vehicle maintenance software, diagnostic software, and computerized test equipment to diagnose problems and make adjustments to engines, electrical systems, and other vehicle components and subsystems; and ability to use welding and flame-cutting equipment to perform vehicle repair work.Primary Responsibilities: Supervise and perform the maintenance and repair operations of the Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) school bus and support vehicle fleet.1. Support Lead Automotive/Diesel Technician in conducting shop operations and services. a. Lead shop personnel in absence of the Lead Automotive/Diesel Technician.2. Supervise and perform preventive and corrective maintenance services and safety inspections as directed and according to established standards. a. Perform maintenance actions listed on the preventive maintenance work order. b. Inspect motor vehicles using inspection checklists and criteria as directed. c. Review operator complaint and vehicle maintenance history as appropriate. d. Perform routine diagnosis and accomplish repair and/or rebuild actions. e. Document repair actions and inspection results and record labor, parts, and supplies used according to established procedures. 3. Ensure shop personnel operates in a safe and secure environment. a. Wear appropriate safety gear, to include eye and hearing protection, safety shoes and support the Lead Automotive/Diesel Technician in enforcing same protocol among all team members. b. Conduct on-going risk assessments to ensure shop safety. 4. Research technical manuals, service bulletins and instructions, equipment diagrams, and parts catalogs in hard copy and on the internet. a. Locate and follow recommended service, diagnostic, repair, installation, removal, and safety procedures. b. Determine replacement and substitute parts needed to perform repairs.5. Provide and maintain automotive/diesel service technician tool chest and hand tools. a. Assume responsibility for equipment, tools, and materials issued for working on motor vehicles. b. Obtain and maintain an adequate inventory of serviceable technician provided hand tools as determined by supervisor. c. Maintain and account for all special tools, parts, supplies, and equipment issued to the employee. d. Clean and store tools promptly after use and clean the shop bays. 6. Supervise, schedule, and train automotive/diesel technicians, private contractors, and trades helpers. 7. Provide excellent customer service to all district personnel and customers. a.Promote teamwork and mutual support among fleet maintenance and other district employees.8. Be available to work assigned shift as directed. a. Work night shift work hours as directed. b. Respond to work requirements any time on any day of the week when assigned to on-call duty. c. Be on call for necessary work 24-hours per day, 7 days per week. 9. Perform other duties as assigned.Physical Demands:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit for extended periods of time. The employee is also required to talk, hear, stand, and walk. The employee may be required to use hands to finger, handle, feel, and/or reach. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. The employee is required to operate a motor vehicle in performance of duties. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
