       License and Certification Qualifications: Valid Georgia teaching certification required. Special education certification and/or concentration preferred.Education Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in related field required. Master's degree with concentration in special education preferred.Experience Qualifications: Three years of successful teaching experience required. Experience delivering staff development to special education teachers and working with assessment, interventions, data collection, and extensions preferred.Skills Qualifications: Ability to organize and complete multiple tasks/projects concurrently; ability to create and deliver effective staff development which supports the direction of the special education program; strong communication skills, both in oral and written format; strong technology skills, including the Lotus Notes Database and Microsoft Office Suite programs; knowledge and application of research-based instructional strategies; ability to work successfully with colleagues; ability to project and generate a positive attitude; and ability to effect change.Primary Responsibilities: Responsible for professional learning development, revision, implementation, and improvement of a cohesive K-12 special education program.1. Provide professional learning opportunities in support of teaching and learning. a. Develop professional learning plans consistent with philosophy, goals, objectives, and needs of the K-12 special education program.b. Implement professional learning through principals, assistant principals, department chairs, and other appropriate personnel.2. Develop curriculum designed to support the K-12 special education program. a. Select, pilot, and implement supplemental materials for the K-12 special education program that support achievement of the Academic Knowledge and Skills (AKS).b. Develop lesson plans, intervention, extensions, and assessments for the K-12 special education program.c. Collect data from a variety of sources including, but not limited to, local, state, national, international, and standardized testing programs to monitor success of the K-12 special education program.d. Utilize data to identify strengths and areas of need in the current special education program. 3. Support local schools in the district. a. Provide support for Local School Plans for Improvement (LSPI) as it relates to achievement for students with disabilities.b. Provide support and assistance to principals, assistant principals, department chairs, and other appropriate personnel who are creating and implementing interventions and extensions in special education programs.c. Support special education classroom teachers with effective instructional strategies, ongoing assessments, and effective classroom management. 4. Communicate to various internal and external audiences concerning program research and information.a. Interpret program philosophy, goals, and objectives to various audiences.b. Provide information to appropriate personnel regarding current research, knowledge, and trends in special education.c. Define and solve problems that occur in the special education program5. Provide student support. a. Manage and promote student programs.b. Develop ways for parents to be more involved in their child's academic achievement. 6. Perform other duties as assigned.Physical Demands:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit for extended periods of time.
