ITS Technician

The Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of fiber optic systems.

American Lighting and Signalization (ALS) provides street lighting and traffic signalization construction, maintenance, and emergency response services in the Southeastern and Mid-Atlantic United States. Our major customers include state departments of transportation (DOTs), investor-owned and municipal utilities, commercial retail land developments, and commercial road contractors.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Work with other technicians to install new networks and troubleshoot existing systems.

  • Work on CCTV systems, dynamic message signs, travel time readers, vehicle detection systems, and fiber optics and wireless systems.

  • Resolve, repair and install fiber optics systems.

  • Splicing and testing of multimode and single-mode fibers in ITS systems.

  • Assist in on-site work duties.

  • Report to General Foreperson any issues involving maintenance of truck or equipment.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.

  • Knowledgeable in Traffic Control Devices (as it relates to ITS installation and maintenance)

  • Must have the ability to work in a bucket or platform truck/device

  • Extensive knowledge of fiber optic installations, cable splicing, and troubleshooting.

  • Can accurately read plans and specifications.

  • Comfortable working outside in various climates.

  • Must be willing to obtain a Class "A" or "B" driver's license (CDL) within 120 days of hire.

Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.

  • Minimum of 12 months of installation, maintenance, and repair of fiber optic systems experience.

  • ITS Technology/Operations.

  • MUTCD (as applicable).

Pre-Screen:

  • Upon offer, employees may be required to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, background, and/or MVR check.

License & Certifications:

  • A valid Driver's license is required.

  • A Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is preferred.

Travel Requirements:

Must be willing to travel within the State of Texas as needed, overnight or out-of-town stay may be required up to 2 weeks as needed.

  • RARE (less than 10%): Sitting, Kneeling, Crawling, Color Vision, Climbing Stairs

  • OCCASIONAL (up to 33%): Stooping, Squatting, Climbing On/Off a Truck, Climbing Ladders, Pushing, Reading, Lifting to 50 lbs.

  • FREQUENT (up to 66%): Carrying, Pulling, Balancing, body-twisting, Hearing/Speech Range, Lifting, lifting to 10 lbs., Manual Dexterity, Speaking Clearly, Walking

  • CONTINUOUS (up to 100%): Standing, Sense of Touch, Gripping, Seeing, Reaching, range-of-motion, Depth Perception, lifting over 10 lbs. to 50 lbs., Climbing
