Dona Ana County CRRUA-Utility Worker in Sunland Park, New Mexico

Under the direction of the Utilities Operations Manager or an assigned supervisor, performs routine maintenance of wastewater and water services, lift stations and wastewater facilities treatment plants.

  • Perform routine maintenance for public water supply systems, wastewater collection and treatment systems and septic disposal facilities.

  • Check water for turbidity, odors, alkalinity, chlorine residual and other requirements to assure compliance with water quality regulations, Inject chemical into sewer systems, operate pumps, valves and other processing equipment to move water or wastewater through various treatment processes.

  • Interpret meters and gauges to ensure plant equipment are working; install water meters, service, clean and repair water and sewer lines.

  • Install, repair and maintain fire hydrants.

  • Clean and maintain lift stations, buildings and grounds and assist personnel in water and wastewater plant repairs.

  • Operate and maintains motor vehicles, compact tractor, and/or front-end loader, may drive a truck or other light vehicle in the course of duties.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES. All other related duties as assigned. May be required to work irregular hours and 24 hour standby.

Education. High school diploma or GED.

Experience. A minimum of six (6) months of fulltime experience performing routine maintenance and/or repair functions in water and/or wastewater utilities.

Education/Experience Substitution. In accordance with Camino Real Regional Utility Authority (CRRUA) policy.

Licenses/Certifications. Must have a valid unrestricted driver’s license and must maintain a satisfactory driving record in accordance with CRRUA policy.

Other (e.g., post-offer medical exam, polygraph, background check, driver’s license record, etc.). Must pass a background check and driver’s license check.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED BY THE POSITION:

Knowledge of basic or commonly used rules, procedures, or operations and the skill to operate equipment requiring some previous training or experience. Follow written instructions and work independently, read service manuals and complete minor repairs using standard methods, operate a variety of general tools and equipment related to the water utilities trade.
