Atlantic Health System Ld Certified Surg Technologist in Summit, New Jersey

Responsible for assisting nursing personnel in giving quality care to patients in the operating room. Performs duties and responsibilities of a scrub person along with a registered professional nurse. Assists in obtaining supplies, equipment and opening of operating and other rooms, as necessary. Breaks down setup and prepares instruments for sterilization. Oversees junior surgical technologist's assignments and provides direction and guidance. Provides performance documentation to supervisor.

Principal Accountabilities:

  1. Checks and gathers all instruments for each case in assigned room with use of surgeon's preference card.

  2. Checks sterility tapes, dates, and integrity of wrappers.

  3. Opens sterile supplies for assigned cases, maintains a sterile field, and takes immediate action to correct any breaks in technique.

  4. Performs surgical scrub techniques and gown and glove procedures for self and surgical team.

  5. Arranges instruments, basins, sutures, and software in a precise manner for accurate count after the completion of surgical procedures.

  6. Passes instruments to surgical team in a safe and efficient manner.

  7. Implements process improvement techniques where necessary and ensures compliance with protocols and regulatory requirements.

  8. Guides junior surgical technicians and technologists and assumes department leadership in the absence of the supervisor.

  9. Performs other related duties as assigned.

  10. Assist with CST education annually and orientation of new team members.

  11. Participates in supporting department goals and projects on the unit

  12. Assist with developing programs to enhance professional development and retention


  1. High School Diploma or equivalent.

  2. 4-6 years of experience as a Scrub Tech in a Hospital Setting.


  1. Associate's degree in Surgical Technology or related field.

  2. Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Certification.

  3. Completion of an accredited Surgical Technologist Program.
