Our small family owned and operated facility is seeking individuals with a heart for geriatric care and a passion to help loved ones with Dementia. We are a 16 bed Alzheimer's and Dementia facility located in beautiful Summerset, SD. We are looking for Dietary Aides who can promote the individuality, independence, confidence, respect, and dignity our resident family members need and deserve. We are looking for team members that are passionate about what they do and take pride in providing the highest quality meals for people who cant provide for themselves.

Job Description:
To assist in the preparation and cooking of delicious dishes in the kitchen. Perform routine kitchen tasks such as setting up workstations and ingredients, so that food can be prepared. As a member of the Dietary team at Friendly Horizons of the Black Hills, the need to be quick and diligent and willing to improve on the job is preferred. Must be able to follow instructions as well as all health and safety rules in the kitchen. You will also be able to function in a fast-paced, busy environment as a part of a team.
Qualifications:
Must be 18 years of age
Assist in daily menu planning and preparation to ensure quality for our resident population
Preparing menu items for the next days meal services.
Label, Date and stock all ingredients on shelves so they can be organized and easily accessible
Measure ingredients and seasonings to be used in cooking
Prepare cooking ingredients by washing and chopping vegetables, cutting meat etc.
Undertake basic cooking duties such as reducing sauces, batch cooking to ensure quality, precooking food, etc.
Prepare simple dishes such as salads, entrees, soups, etc.
Ensure daily menu items are prepared and cooked in a timely manner
Prepare meal items in a way that is consistent with state and facility guidelines.
Maintain a clean and orderly kitchen by washing dishes, cleaning as you go, sanitizing surfaces, taking out trash, etc.
Ensure all food and other items are stored properly
Maintain inventory and keep coolers and freezers organized
Comply with nutrition, portion, and dietary texture guidelines.
Attend all in-service and staff meetings
Perform other kitchen duties as assigned by the administrative team.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Experience as a cook (Preferred but not required)
Knowledge of health and safety rules in a kitchen (ServSafe is a plus)
Manual dexterity able to operate cutting tools and kitchen utensils and all other kitchen equipment.
A team player with good communication skills.
Patient with an ability to stay positive under pressure.
Very good physical condition and endurance.
High school diploma or equivalent is desirable; Training from a culinary school will be an asset.
