YAI Full Time Assistant Behavior Intervention Specialist - Bay Shore, NY in Suffolk County, New York

YAI has an opening for an Assistant Behavior Intervention Specialist. YAI promotes a person-centered approach by creating supports that cater to the specific needs of each person. Join our dynamic team teaching daily and independent living skills, providing individual and group counseling, and promoting community integration. The ideal candidate will have enthusiasm for working with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and a willingness to help with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as assisting with showering, toileting, grooming, laundry and housekeeping as necessary. ABIS works directly with people in their home, work, and daily life in varying capacities. An ABIS must have previously worked as a DSP, completed all the required trainings and demonstrated all the knowledge, skills and accountabilities of a Direct Service Professional Level three.

The Asst. BIS position blends together the DSP role and the clinical leadership role. Clinical leadership under the supervision of the BIS includes educating team members on habilitative and Behavior Support Plans, assisting with clinical assessments, ensuring data collection and providing direct feedback and education to all team members.

Location :Bay Shore

Hours:

Sunday 7:00am - 3:00pm / Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 3:00pm-11:00pm / Thursday 10:00am - 6:00pm (40hrs/week)

Key responsibilities:

  • To provide direct care services as needed. This includes, but not limited to, the provision of direct counseling, implementation of each individual’s treatment plan, training in ADL skills, assistance with personal care, medical, dietary, social, sexual, recreational, financial, habilitative and other needs within the program.

  • To train staff, which includes, but is not limited to, using the EMOE training system to ensure that all clinical interventions are properly implemented, to communicate clinical rationales to the staff, to provide staff with both formal and informal feedback, and role model at all times appropriate tone, implementing of habilitative and behavioral programming, and appropriate data collection techniques

  • Role Model use of person-centered philosophy and use of person-centered tools

  • To develop written, individualized habilitative plans in accordance with the agency philosophy, as determined by individual need.

  • To conduct assessments – both behavioral and habilitative via formal means (written questionnaires, rating scales, baseline data, etc.) and informal (observations), under the supervision of the BIS.

  • To design effective data collection systems that allows progress to be monitored. To monitor the data collection, ensure that the data is totaled and summarized on a monthly basis and that new data sheets are accessible to staff at the beginning of each month.

  • To oversee/maintain the completion of all required paperwork, including monthlies, Person-Centered materials, and ensure that all pertinent information is included on psychiatric anecdotals.

  • To provide the appropriate therapeutically documented level of an individual’s supervision to ensure and protect the individual’s health/safety and well-being. Whenever this level is unclear or unknown, to provide the maximum level of supervision to assure and protect the individual’s health and safety.

  • Train new staff on Level 1 competencies

  • Resource to staff by providing clinical support in absence of the BIS/Supervisor

  • Lead trainer of weekend staff on clinical interventions

Education and Experience:

  • BA/BS Degree in Psychology or Human Services strongly preferred or

  • Enrolled in 4-year degree in Psychology or Human Services field

  • Experience working within the field of ID/DD preferred

Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Exceptional interpersonal, problem solving and communication skills

  • Willing to take initiative

  • Highly flexible to varied work schedule

  • Experience in computer skills and ability to teach others

  • College level writing ability.

  • Must demonstrate assertiveness/leadership skills.

  • Must demonstrate clinical skills.

Starting Hourly Pay Rate:

$22.37/hour
