Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Utilize programming software (3i Blank and SigmaNest) to create cutting nests that maximizes sheet utilization and minimizes run time while meeting quality expectations.

  • Develop procedures and standards for all laser programmers and cutting operators to follow.

  • Establish corporate strategy for best use of automation (material loading towers) including lights out cutting.

  • Provide guidance to design engineers/customers on the sheet metal based on cutting knowledge (including tooling selection for commonality with other parts).

  • Assist in the management of turret tooling (identification, storage, and tracking of tools).

  • Establish and maintain turret tooling library used by all programmers.

  • Work with Operations to optimize cutting processes and monitor machine up-time.

  • Provide technical manufacturing support throughout the organization.

  • Communicate with internal and external customers on manufacturing techniques and quality related issues.

  • Consult with supervisors and leads to determine acceptable quality levels.

  • Research tools, methodologies, and processes to find solutions to improve production efficiency, quality, and safety.

  • Implement Continuous Improvement and Waste Elimination using Lean Principals

  • Complete time studies on manufacturing processes.

  • Other process engineering duties as needed:

  • Creating engineering drawings, bills of materials, and routings.

  • Designing manufacturing fixtures and gauges to assist operations.

  • Process new parts and engineering changes and assist impacted parties with implementation.

  • Provide oversight to the production first run of products, reviewing process for inefficiencies, ensure all documentation is correct and quality standards are met.

Qualifications

  • A degree in a technical field such as mechanical, manufacturing, and/or industrial engineering or related experience

  • 3-7+ years of experience in fabrication manufacturing engineering processes such as laser cutting or horizontal machining centers

  • Blueprint reading and interpretation

  • 2D & 3D CAD, AutoCAD, Solidworks, and/or Pro-E Software

  • Programming Software (3i Blank-M, SigmaNest)

  • Knowledge of Lean and Six Sigma

  • Microsoft Office Software
