PNC Infrastructure Engineer Sr (Servers/Storage/Virtualization) in Strongsville, Ohio

As a Infrastructure Engineer Sr within PNC’s Enterprise Technology organization, you will be based in Phoenix, AZ or Strongsville, OH or Pittsburgh, PA or Birmingham, AL or Dallas, TX. The position is primarily based in a PNC location. Responsibilities require time in the office or in the field on a regular basis. Some responsibilities may be performed remotely, at the manager’s discretion.

Successful Infrastructure Engineer Sr are individual contributors who seek to continuously improve the quality and reliability of IT infrastructure. They are experts in all aspects of infrastructure design and architecture and have extensive understanding of related areas such as network, application, and platform architecture. They are progressive thinkers, effective written and verbal communicators, and can influence and drive direction for engineering teams. As necessary, they provide documentation and training to enable engineers and implementors.

• Contributes and assists in developing the organization's technology architecture and plays a leading role in the vision and development of the company's future technology strategy.

• Creates and documents infrastructure designs and ensures upgrades are made in accordance with established standards, patterns, policies, procedures, and software licensing agreements.

• Contributes and assists in interpreting technology requirements and develops scalable infrastructure solutions to solve business problems.

• Develops internal standards and appropriate design artifacts that align with long-term business strategies, and tracks industry changes against current technology and practices.

• Reviews and advises current and future design standards for infrastructure system builds; provides input on risk, scalability, operational/cost efficiency, quality, and impact on the enterprise.

• Researches, identifies, and tests technology products; performs proof of concepts of new technologies to determine if they are a good fit for the company and drives introduction of new technology where needed.

• Creates roadmaps and strategies for progressing the technology footprint.

• Provides leadership, technology guidance, and mentorship within the IT organization.

• Participates in the training and support of engineering and operations groups.

• Consults with vendors and salespeople to evaluate new products and technologies.


• Expertise in enterprise infrastructure design, including public cloud, networking, Windows/Linux operating system environments, storage area networks, and other related infrastructure components.

• Thorough grasp of virtualization technologies and related concepts, such as storage, compute, network virtualization, HCI, IaaS, container orchestration, automation, and resource planning.

• Hands-on familiarity with next-gen firewalls, implementation of stateful access-control lists, or application segmentation.

• Experience designing and building cloud environments using AWS or Azure.

• Strong understanding of cyber security principles and technologies.

• Experience with disaster recovery planning.

• Familiarity with modern software development and DevOps concepts, workflow management, site reliability, continuous delivery and integration, microservices, RESTful APIs, and common application infrastructure patterns.

• Experience with automation and scripting using tools such as Ansible and Terraform

• Ability to work well in both a team setting and independently to meet business objectives.

• Ability to conceptualize, formulate, and present complex solutions to a wide audience.

• Excellent written and oral communication skills.

• Excellent documentation skills, including experience creating and maintaining architectural governance, process, standards, and policies.

  • Provides expertise on platform engineering, while overseeing the team's effort and meeting customer needs. Uses technical knowledge and industry experience to design, build and maintain technology solutions.

  • Develops software components and hardware for complex projects; aligns these with business strategies and objectives.

  • Provides expertise on best practices, standards, engineering approaches and complex technical resolutions for processes.

  • Places emphasis on quality improvement efforts; ensures that deliverables are secure, scalable and reliable through estimation and correction.

  • Communicates with customers and integrates their needs with development, to meet business objectives.
