Stony Brook University Equipment Room Assistant in Stony Brook, New York


Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Experience in athletics and/or equipment management Preferred Qualifications:
Understanding of NCAA Rules Compliance (played a Division I, II or III sport, coached in collegiate athletics or as a staff member in a collegiate athletic program). Prior experience with inventory management.
Brief Description of Duties:
The Equipment Room Assistant will assist the Assistant Directors of the Equipment Room and the Director of the Equipment Room Operations with the daily operations and services of the Athletics equipment room. This position will also serve on the instructional support staff following the daily operational plans for inventory, receiving and disbursement and maintenance and repair of the athletics equipment under direct supervision. The duties may include basic on-line searching, cataloging and both written and verbal communication with supervisors' peers and support staff.

  • Equipment Room:
    • The Equipment Room Assistant will assist under direct supervision in the areas of the Athletic equipment room with daily operations the organization of all equipment, uniforms, and supplies, laundering of practice gear and game uniforms, collection and disbursement of equipment, maintenance and repair of equipment for all intercollegiate athletic programs. The incumbent will assist in maintaining the organization of the Athletic Equipment Room.
  • Inventory Support:
    • Under direct supervision the incumbent will maintain, set up and store all sport specific equipment and track any/all unreturned and/or damaged items. Locker room set up of both home and visitors for events. Assisting with the duties including periodic equipment inventories and inventory control. The incumbent will follow the procedures for the collection and security for all the sporting equipment. In addition, this position will manage all invoices involved with all sports, and help monitor, verify and reconcile expenditure of budgeted funds.
  • Maintenance and Repair:
    • The Assistant will consistently examine all equipment for any maintenance and make repairs to equipment utilizing the specialized tools. Additionally, will report any damaged apparel, gear or equipment to direct report, ensuring that we meet all safety.
  • Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.

Special Notes:
This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Non Exempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.
