Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Three (3) years of full-time work experience. Experience creating partnerships, developing outreach programs, and/or planning events. Must have, keep and maintain the appropriate valid NYS Driver's License; have a motor vehicle record which is free from major violations or a pattern of repeat violations. Master's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Higher Education, Public Health, Social Work or related field. Experience in a higher education or not-for-profit environment. Event planning experience. Career or academic coaching experience with a diverse, college educated population. Experience designing and presenting F2F & virtual content for a diverse college audience. Supervisory experience. Experience using databases such as corporate applicant tracking systems, advising, or career services databases. Experience with other technological programs (i.e. Handshake, Blackboard, Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, Qualtrics).Brief Description of Duties:
The Assistant Director will manage a new initiative at Stony Brook University: The Center for Service Learning & Community Service. Under the auspices of the Career Center in the Division of Student Affairs, the Center will become the campus hub for service and service-learning projects, building long-term partnerships between community partners and the faculty, staff, and students.
The incumbent is a dynamic, innovative, and equity-minded individual who will develop relationships with community partners and faculty throughout the campus to create F2F & virtual opportunities for student learning through service. The AD will ensure that the principles of ethical and best practices in experiential education and career development are infused into service experiences. Strong candidates will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be highly organized with exceptional attention to detail, and can take an idea and bring it to fruition while managing multiple responsibilities. Essential for this role is the adeptness to work independently as well as part of a team, a learning orientation, collaborative approach to problem solving and a student-centered philosophy.

  • Liaison Work with Community Partners, Academic, & Administrative Departments: Create and sustain partnerships between the university and community organizations that support our public service mission, foster a deeper commitment to service, produce global citizens, and improve lives of the underserved and communities in need. Work with faculty to integrate service components into coursework. Work with staff partners (e.g. Center for Civic Justice, Interfaith Center, Student Engagement & Activities) to create co-curricular service initiatives. Expand the Community Service Federal Work-Study Program to engage students in community-based work jobs off campus. Facilitate academic service-learning agreements.
  • Program Management: Plan and execute service programs on/off campus. Manage all aspects of these programs, from student recruitment, orientation, & training, to project management, assessment, evaluation, and reporting. Use technologies and databases to collect, compile, and analyze data from all service programming on campus to measure impact, identify areas of improvement, and guide future direction. Address safety and risk management issues. Secure grants to support programming.
  • Direct Student Service: Provide individual and group coaching for undergraduate and graduate students and student groups seeking service opportunities on and off campus.
  • Supervision: Supervise professional staff, graduate students, and undergraduate students.
  • Professional Development and Student Affairs Committees: Participate in opportunities that promote your learning, growth, and development (i.e. classes, training, committee, webinar, etc.). Contribute to the Division of Student Affairs and Stony Brook University by attending and/or supporting events, activities, and programs sponsored by areas outside of your individual unit/department (i.e. campus wide traditions, events, programs, etc.). Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission. Evening and weekend work will be required at times.

Special Notes:
This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.In addition to the employee's base salary, this position is eligible for $3,087 UUP annual location pay, paid biweekly.Essential Position: This has been designated as an essential position based on the duties of the job and the functions performed. Positions that are designated as such may be required to report to work/remain at work even if classes are canceled, and the campus is working on limited operations in an emergency.
