Job Description

The Environmental Field Technician will be responsible for obtaining and transferring liquid and solid samples from various locations such as pipelines, wells, tanks, and other vessels. This role involves walking over uneven surfaces and collecting soil samples at different depths using soil augers, spades, and soil probes. The technician will meet with customers at various industrial, commercial, agricultural, and residential locations to collect or pick up various types of agricultural and environmental samples. Proper labeling and documentation of samples, including completing a Chain-of-Custody form, are essential. The technician will also set up sample compositors, calibrate field meters, and deliver samples to the laboratory for analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Remove manhole covers, dip sample containers, and turn valves to obtain and transfer liquid samples.

  • Walk over uneven surfaces and moderately steep slopes to collect soil samples at different depths using soil augers, spades, and soil probes.

  • Transfer solid samples such as soil, plant tissue, crystals, powder, or granular material to appropriate containers.

  • Meet with customers at various locations to collect or pick up agricultural and environmental samples.

  • Label sample containers with identifying data including location of sample and time collected.

  • Accurately complete a Chain-of-Custody form.

  • Set up sample compositors.

  • Calibrate various types of field meters and use these meters in the field while sampling.

  • Gather samples at specified locations and time intervals using proper sampling techniques as stated in the Standard Operating Procedures.

  • Deliver samples to the laboratory for analysis.

Essential Skills

  • Experience in agriculture or environmental science

  • Experience in soil sampling

  • High school diploma or GED

  • One to three months of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Attention to detail for accurate labeling and documentation

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Good communication skills for interacting with customers

Work Environment

This position involves over 70% driving and working out in the field to collect samples. The work requires walking over uneven and sometimes soft surfaces and moderately steep slopes. The role offers a close family feel and great culture, making it an attractive opportunity.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr.
