This position provides journey-level mechanical work associated with the maintenance and repair of all the various air conditioning (HVAC), refrigeration equipment, coolers, freezers, and other building systems, and performs other duties assigned throughout the Minnesota Correctional Facility -Stillwater

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Perform both the normal and emergency maintenance and repair of air conditioning, refrigeration, heating, ventilation and steam systems so that the systems are kept in working order and the preventive maintenance guidelines are met.

  • Supervise, hire, train, count, direct, and evaluate offenders assigned to incarcerated individual crews.

  • Maintain preventive maintenance files for all required equipment.

  • Oversee special projects involving the installation of new systems to the physical plant and facility.

This position has direct contact with incarcerated individual.

Minimum Qualifications

The following qualifications are required of all applicants seeking consideration for this position:

  • Possession of Universal EPA Certification for Handling of Refrigerants.

  • Two (2) or more years of journey-level refrigeration mechanic experience in the maintenance and repair of major air conditioning and refrigeration systems, e.g., central air conditioning, window air conditioners, HVAC, and commercial refrigeration.

  • Valid Class D driver‘s license, which may be required for specific job assignments.

Note: Appliance or home refrigerator repair does not meet the minimum qualifications.

Preferred Qualifications

The following qualifications are strongly desired of applicants seeking consideration for this position:

  • Diploma or degree in HVAC/refrigeration from a vocational-technical training program.

  • Vocational schooling/training in building automation controls.

  • First Class C Boiler‘s License or higher.

  • One (1) year of experience working with building automation systems.

  • Two (2) years of experience trouble-shooting pneumatic/direct digital controls and/or building automation systems.

  • Two (2) years of journey-level refrigeration mechanic experience in the maintenance and repair of large commercial HVAC and refrigeration systems.

Physical Requirements

The completion of pre-placement physical components may be required for this position. These components may consist of a tuberculosis screening, commercial drivers license (CDL) drug test, and/or respirator clearance. Additional Requirements

The selection process may include screening the top candidate(s) on their criminal history, predatory offender registration, offender associations and/or other applicable background information in accordance with Department of Corrections’ policy. Top candidate(s) must pass a criminal history check which includes successful completion of all sentencing and/or restitution requirements of law enforcement jurisdictions, including probation.

Employment history/reference checks, including incidents of sexual harassment, will also be conducted on the top candidate(s) in accordance with Department of Corrections’ policy. This may include a review of job performance and discipline records.
