SAIC Principal Data Scientist in STERLING, Virginia
Description
SAIC is seeking a motivated, career and customer oriented, and hands on Data Scientist to support our CBP customer. This will be a remote position, but will require occasional attendance onsite at our Ashburn, VA or Kingstowne, Virginia offices.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Collect and analyze large data sets from complex data models including relational databases
Define acceptance criteria including setting algorithm thresholds based on statistical analysis
Develop and identify approaches for predictive models
Define and set standards for performing data analysis
Interface with clients, project management, stake holders, and development teams
Consolidate information into reports or UI dashboards
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Computational Statistics, or related field
3+ years of experience in data science techniques – including data analysis, statistical analysis, programming, modeling, machine learning, and deep learning
Strong programming skills including SQL, python, other related languages, and data mining tools
Strong background in math and statistics
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Ability to work effectively within a team environment
Typical education and experience:
- Bachelor's degree and nine (9) years or more experience; Master's degree and seven (7) years or more experience; PhD or JD and four (4) years or more experience
Desired Qualifications:
Knowledge working with Unix/Linux
Experience with C# or similar programming language
Advanced learning techniques - information retrieval, modeling, and entity resolution
Knowledge of a variety of data formats such as XML, JSON, and various image formats
Strong organization and time management skills
Experience working with DHS, Customs and Border Protection, or travel related data
Master’s Degree in a related field

Ability to obtain and hold a public trust position and favorable suitability based on a CBP Background Investigation
Location – Telework with on-site visits if a mission need. Candidates must be within the GWA/commutable area
