Job Description
The College of Science and Mathematics (http://www.tarleton.edu/cosm/) is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the Manager position at the Timberlake Biological Field Station (TBFS) (http://www.tarleton.edu/timberlakeranch/) , operated by Tarleton State University, is an 800-acre field station located approximately 15 miles south of Goldthwaite, Texas(Mills County) along the Texas Colorado River. TBFS was established in 2015 to advance environmental research, engage students in scientific discovery, and promote stewardship of the natural world. The vision is to be a model field station focused on education, outreach, and research associated with the ecological integrity of the Texas Colorado River and the diverse flora and fauna of the Cross Timber and Edwards Plateau ecoregions of Texas.
The TBFS site manager conducts the maintenance and upkeep of the field station, including its infrastructure, and supports its activities and mission. The position is full-time, with an average of 40 hours per week, but the schedule will be flexible according to station needs. The manager will be a full-time resident and is expected to live in university-provided housing at the field station to greet visitors and handle after-hours tasks, including emergencies.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Receives weekly direction from the field station director
Ensures Safety and security at the field station
Conducts reception and check-in of visitors
Plans, schedules, organizes, conducts, and supervises maintenance and repair contracting for station facilities and equipment
Organizes, coordinates, and purchases equipment, supplies, and spare parts required for station operation and sanctioned by the director
Coordinates facility use and helps visitors plan accommodation
Coordinates and trains education and data collection volunteers
Regularly inspects the field station infrastructure and informs the director of needed repairs
Ensures that the field station is clean and organized, including the accommodation areas and bathrooms
Organizes and coordinates the upkeep of the access roads on station property
Tracks stock inventories(equipment, tools, fuels, food, and other supplies)
Manages wildlife populations (including feral hogs and white-tailed deer)
The Site Manager may be free to undertake their own field studies if desired
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Five years of related experience.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Bachelor of Science degree in a relevant field such as biology, wildlife management, agriculture, science education, sustainability, environmental science, or ecology
Experience operating, or ability to learn the operation of, trucks, trailers, zero-turn lawnmowers, and tractors
Experience on rough roads, sometimes requiring 4WD
Experience and proficiency with power tools, including chainsaws
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to live full-time at the field station in a rural and isolated setting
Ability to work independently and with initiative
Background and interest in wildlife management, biology, geology, agriculture, environmental science, or a relevant field
Willingness and ability to maintain the functionality and cleanliness of the station
Dedication to the safety of self and others
Ability to obtain a commercial driver's license (CDL) to operate the station's education trailer

Commensurate with experience
The target base annual salary is $48,120 and may be negotiable based on funding availability and candidate experience/skillset in relation to the minimum requirements of this position.
