Job Description

The Department of Psychological Sciences (http://www.tarleton.edu/psychology/) within the College of Education (http://www.tarleton.edu/coe/) is currently inviting applications from qualified candidates for the tenure-track position of Assistant Professor of Psychological Sciences.

This is a 9-month tenure-track position located on Tarleton’s main campus in Stephenville, Texas. Summer appointment is dependent upon need and funding availability. Teaching responsibilities will include a range of undergraduate and graduate courses in the psychological sciences and mentorship of graduate students. Area of research specialization is open, but preference will be given to candidates with a background of empirical work in the field of experimental psychology. Work hours: Mon-Fri; 8 AM-5 PM or as work and teaching requirements indicate. Requires the ability to teach and/or work remotely at the University’s discretion.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

  • 60% Teaching and Service: Teach graduate and undergraduate courses related to the applicant's demonstrated area of expertise in the psychological sciences. The applicant will be expected to develop and implement an effective teaching program to support the department's teaching mission, using appropriate teaching methods, technology, and other tools as applicable. Maintain an appropriate schedule of office hours for student access and inquiry. Participate in institutional service roles such as, but not limited to, university committees, club sponsorship, advisory committees, and student recruitment

  • 40% Research: Scholarship, and Creative Activity: Develop a sustainable, nationally recognized, externally-funded research program in a demonstrated area of expertise within the psychological sciences.

    Minimum Requirements:

  • Earned doctorate/terminal degree in Psychology (or closely related field) with a research focus in experimental psychology

  • The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate excellence and innovation in teaching and mentoring undergraduate and master’s students

  • Must take an active role in accreditation-related tasks and other institutional service activities

  • ​Preferred qualifications include a record of research and publication at the national/international level, university teaching experience (particularly online), experience in pursuing funded research, and ability to teach courses in statistics and research methods.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :Demonstrated ability in the discipline and showing clear promise of teaching excellence as evidenced in evaluation by peers, department head, and college dean. Documented yearly progress of professional achievement in teaching and service.

The position reports to the Department Head in the Department of Psychological Sciences at Tarleton State University
