Job Description
The Department of Mathematics (http://www.tarleton.edu/math/) in the College of Science and Math (http://www.tarleton.edu/cosm/) ematics invites candidates to apply for the Assistant/Associate Professor Tenure Track position. This is a 9-month tenure-track position located on Tarleton’s main campus in Stephenville, Texas. Summer appointment is dependent upon need and funding availability. This position is primarily responsible for the teaching/learning process and will also participate in the necessary operations of the institution. Work hours: Mon-Fri; 8 AM-5 PM or as work and teaching requirements indicate.
Requires the ability to teach and/or work remotely at the University’s discretion.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
60% Teaching and Service: Develop, implement, and review effective teaching/learning processes, incorporating appropriate methodology, technology, and other tools; Remain current in discipline and update course content when appropriate to reflect current levels of student knowledge in the discipline; Develop a system for ongoing evaluation of both teaching and learning, including expectations of student competency and student learning outcomes; Work in partnership with immediate supervisor through a formal system of evaluation of instruction to identify strengths and weaknesses and identify professional development activities to improve student learning. May be required to teach at other campuses or online. Maintain appropriate schedule of office hours for student access and inquiry; Work in partnership with student success personnel on student advising and orientation. Participate in institutional service roles such as but not limited to, college committees, club sponsorship, advisory committees, student/faculty recruitment, and mentoring of new and part-time faculty.
40% Research: Scholarship, and Creative Activity: Demonstrate a record of ongoing research, scholarship, or creative activity appropriate to your academic discipline.
Minimum Requirements
Earned doctorate/terminal degree in mathematics education or a closely related field with at least 18 hours of graduate mathematics coursework from an accredited university
Ability to teach undergraduate mathematics courses for pre-service teachers (elementary, middle school, and/or secondary)
Ability to teach undergraduate mathematics courses
Ability to teach graduate level mathematics courses with an emphasis in mathematics education
Demonstrate a pattern of excellence in research and teaching
Must take an active role in accreditation-related tasks and other institutional service activities
Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated:
Potential for interdisciplinary collaborations for research, outreach, and grant opportunities
Experience with teacher certification processes for elementary, middle school, and/or secondary mathematics
Experience teaching mathematics in the K-12 schools
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Faculty in the rank of assistant professor shall have demonstrated academic and professional achievement. Those appointed to the rank of assistant professor will demonstrate teaching excellence, scholarly/creative attainment, and professional achievement both within and outside the university.
