This position is for a Senior Software Engineer with a company at Stennis Space Center, MS.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Senior Software Engineer will advance the capabilities of the Naval Oceanographic Office (NAVOCEANO) by providing software design, development, and maintenance. The position includes full lifecycle software support for web applications, user interfaces, geo-processing tools, GIS map services, REST interfaces, database manipulation applications/interfaces, and workflow management tools. NAVOCEANO is located at NASA's Stennis Space Center and the work would be performed in NAVOCEANO's facilities.
Education and Experience: Bachelor's Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field. Required Experience: 7+ years' experience with object-oriented programming languages such as Java or Python (post-graduate degrees may substitute for years of experience). Active Secret security clearance with the Department of Defense. Desired Qualifications: Experience with: Leading software development projects through full software development lifecycle. Programming languages such as Java, Python. Web languages such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript. Database/data design. Unix/Linux scripting and crons. Self-motivated yet able to work well within a development team. Strong oral and written communication skills. Strong additional consideration for experience with: GIS development experience including dissemination portals. Experience with METOC or intelligence data/systems. Web applications and web programming languages (HTML, CSS, JavaScript). Code repository systems (e.g. Subversion, Git). Scientific programming and numerical methods. Relational databases (e.g. Postgres, Oracle). Certifications in computing and network security.
