Stanford Live is Stanford University’s professional performing arts presenter. With its main home in Bing Concert Hall and landmark venues across campus—including Frost Amphitheater—Stanford Live presents a wide range of the finest performances from around the world fostering a vibrant learning community and providing distinctive experiences through the performing arts.

The Stage Technician reports to the Production Manager and primarily supports Bing Concert Hall with a focus on stage management, stage systems and general maintenance and production support of Stanford Live, the Department of Music and other users of the facility. Additional responsibilities include cross-departmental support of other production team members. Support for Stanford Live performances in other campus and off campus venues will be required. Communicate to the Directors of Operations and Production progress, success and any areas of concern.

The Stage Technician maintains high standards of craftsmanship, efficiency and safety in all productions and events. Stanford Live venues are technically complex and require a high-level understanding of audio, video, lighting and rigging.

In this role, you will:

  • Provide technical assistance as needed for all events. Work includes oversight from setup to strike.

  • Perform equipment maintenance and inventory activities, as needed.

  • Provide and assemble equipment for events including electrical, lighting, sound, staging, and video equipment.

  • Serve as stage manager for performances as appropriate. Work with the artists to efficiently manage the flow of performance. Serve as the point of communication between backstage and the front of house manager.

  • Serves as light board programmer and operator for productions when appropriate.

  • Assists at load-in, notes sessions, technical rehearsals, and strike of productions.

  • Collaborate with the production team with training new contingent staff.

  • Partner with artist representatives to ensure compliance with all venue rules. Ensures compliance with Stanford policy and protocol.

  • Maintain positive and productive relationships with outside vendors, including leveraging/negotiating favorable arrangements for Stanford Live whenever possible.

  • Keeps current with industry trends in systems and best practices to accommodate the needs and requirements of our artist.

Please note that this position will be based on the Stanford campus and will be considered hybrid. The position will also work evenings, weekends, and holidays based on production and event schedule requirements.

To be successful, you will bring:

  • A minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in theater and event production such as stage management, backline, lighting, video, and general venue operations.

  • Strong events planning, project management, administrative and organizational abilities required. Communicate with diplomacy and professionalism.

  • Ability to handle sensitive situations and always maintain confidentiality.

  • Proficiency in Word, Excel and Google Suite required. Drafting ability in Vectorworks and/or AutoCAD highly desirable.

  • Broad knowledge and interest in performing arts preferred.

  • General proficiency in all major areas of concert production

  • Knowledge of job-related health/safety issues and ability to identify potential hazards. Read, understand, and follow safety procedures.

  • Ability to work at heights, around moving machinery, and with exposure to noise, vibration, dust, and drafts within an OSHA compliant environment.

  • Ability to lift and carry 40 lbs. for short distances.

Certifications and Licenses:

  • Valid California Non-commercial Driver's License.
